OverviewNational Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Structures Engineer to join our Asset Management division within Operations. As a Structures Engineer, you will predominantly assist with the management of our structures by identifying asset needs and producing/reviewing risk management plans. The role will also entail elements of project management, such as managing budgets and, to an extent, the supply chain to maintain assets in line with our DMRB standards. You will engage with third parties and customers on network issues, while delivering support via a remote on-call service. The Structures Engineer may also spend time developing treatment options and undertaking preliminary design work, or undertaking structural reviews and assessment works for structures, while ensuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards. This role can be based from Warrington, Manchester or Preston offices on a hybrid basis. You will be required to drive as part of your role and will need a full driving licence (no more than 3 points) to be considered for this position.ResponsibilitiesIdentify, prepare survey briefs, and support delivery of structures survey works that support improvement, assessments and/or renewal of structures assets.Monitor the delivery of agreed assessment work liaising with technical partners; or the delivery of treatment options, liaising with the relevant delivery teams to aid successful delivery of schemes.Develop early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including compiling relevant documents, evidence, and option reports for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability and costs.Undertake structural reviews in accordance with CS 451 and structural assessment in accordance with DMRB standards.Assist with developing the regions asset-led forward programme and initial scheme development, customer-centric designs and technical specifications.Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent and working towards a professional membership or professional body.Experience in structures studies, renewals work design, or structural assessment; experience working within allocated budgets including the creation of a budget for scheme development (desirable).Good stakeholder management and communication skills with a strong customer focus.Knowledge of National Highways standards (DMRB, MCHW and Eurocodes) and their application on the highways network.Knowledge of CDM 2015.QualificationsDegree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent and working towards a professional membership or professional body.Experience in structures studies, renewals work design, or structural assessment; experience working within allocated budgets including the creation of a budget for scheme development (desirable).Good stakeholder management and communication skills with strong customer focus.Knowledge of National Highways standards (DMRB, MCHW and Eurocodes) and their application on the highways network.Knowledge of CDM 2015.Benefits and Working ArrangementsSalary: External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.Flexible working: We offer many different ways to work flexibly and are open to discuss part-time working, job shares, and flexible start and finish times.Hybrid working.Contributory pension scheme with employer contribution of up to 10%.Annual leave starting at 26 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising by 1 day each year up to 31 days (plus Bank Holidays).Life assurance of 4 times annual salary.Health and wellbeing support, including an Employee Assistance Programme (24/7), with access to a wellbeing app, occupational health service and flu vaccines.Cycle to work scheme and support for healthy, low-carbon travel.Significant investment in your career development through learning and development, talent management, coaching, mentoring and on-the-job experience.Family-friendly policies with enhanced maternity leave and pay, paternity leave, shared parental leave and adoption leave.
