Our specialist team are experts not only in completing the most thorough inspections on critical structures such as railway bridges, but also in accessing some of the most challenging locations. To be considered for the Structures Engineer (Examination Reviewing) role you will be willing to travel nationally and work unsociable hours if and when required. You will also be competent up to STE1 or STE2 level (rail engineering).
What will you be doing?
A Structures Engineer for BES Infrastructure, is predominantly a desk-based role undertaking technical reviews of examination and inspection reports for all kinds of structures.
You will cover a multitude of infrastructure categories, including but not limited to, Highways, Rail, Aviation, Utilities, Ports and Harbours etc.
Where competent to do so, as a Structures Engineer you will complete technical reviews of Structural Inspections and Examinations, Investigations and Surveys on assets such as Bridges, Culverts, Walls, Tunnels, Gantries, Masts, Lighting Towers etc.
You Will
- Support the Engineering Management Team in the efficient and effective provision of both technical delivery and compliance with the contract technical specification and standards
- Support the completion of structural inspections, investigations and surveys in accordance with the required technical standards/specifications
- Review technical engineering inspection/examination, investigation and survey findings to identify aspects that will or may affect the fitness for purpose or operational safety.
- Recommend actions to deal with identified problems that will or may affect fitness for purpose or operational safety.
- Conduct quality reviews of the reports ensuring that report outputs meet client specification
- Provide constructive feedback to Engineers, Inspectors and Surveyors based on report quality and via End Product Check processes in order to optimise report quality and minimise rejections
- Engage proactively with supply chain and other third-party contractors, promoting best practice and ensuring supplier performance.
- Work as part of a growing team on railway and highway infrastructure
- A starting salary from £40,000 (dependent on experience and competency level)

- Minimum HNC in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar)
- Network Rail STE2 Engineering competency (or STE1 plus supporting experience)
- Knowledge of Rail and Highway Inspection Regulations
- Experience and/or knowledge of undertaking structural inspections, investigations and/or surveys
- Experience and/or knowledge of maintaining assets such as Bridges, Culverts, Walls, Tunnels, Gantries, Masts, Lighting Towers etc.
- Be prepared to travel and work nationwide
- Full UK Driving license
