Key Responsibilities

The design of electrical distribution substations from 11kV up to 132kV Design of substations across full project life cycle, from feasibility studies to detailed construction designs. Undertake the role of ‘Designer’ under the CDM regulations and production of a designer’s risk assessment for each project Visit substations to establish the existing site layout, produce as-built drawings, assess project requirements, and then produce detailed design drawings for all aspects from 11kV switch rooms up to 132kV compound layouts

Key Competencies

Engineering knowledge of substation design and construction Knowledge of Standards associated with EHV substation design up to 132kV Knowledge of engineering standards associated with EHV substation plant Ability to manage and prioritise work to ensure project timescales are met The necessary background experience and technical knowledge to attain Competent Person status as defined in the Company’s Distribution Safety Rules to facilitate personal access to the Company’s operational sites

Qualifications & Attributes

At least an HNC level qualification within a relevant subject or equivalent experience A full and valid driving licence is essential Knowledge of EHV power systems, safety procedures and engineering requirements Knowledge of civil engineering aspects of substation construction Proficient with CAD drawing software Bentley MicroStation or AutoCAD
