Uptime Engineer - Role OverviewSMT GB is looking for experienced Engineers who are ready to advance their career in a role that moves away from the tools and into a new challenge.. Working as a desk based Uptime Engineer , you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the operational efficiency of equipment. You will work closely with customers to ensure their machinery is performing at optimal levels, minimizing downtime, and maximizing productivity.This is a depot based role and can be based from either our Brownhills or Treforest depot.Key Responsibilities:Develop maintenance strategies based on contract fleet trends to improve reliability and performanceEnsure systems are updated with accurate machine population data, ensuring all regional machines report correctlyUse inspection reports, oil analysis, and internal systems to identify and address machine issuesOversee and support parts and service quotes to increase incremental work on contract machinesIdentify parts, labour, and tooling needs for warranty cases to reduce engineer travel and minimise unrecoverable costsGenerate sales leads for high-value work and actively promote parts, remanufactured products, and service solutionsGather market intelligence, monitor competitor activity, and report on lost sales to improve performanceCollaborate with the internal teams on contract strategies and cost management throughout the machine's lifecycleManage technical support escalations, assist with complex customer communications, and oversee rework programs efficientlyEnsure product updates and bulletins are actioned as part of relevant repairs and undertake additional duties as requiredRequirementsQualifications and Skills Required:NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalentExperience in a Heavy Plant Engineer role with demonstrable diagnostic and repair experienceGood technical knowledge of current heavy plant mechanical systems, machine ranges and partsExcellent communication skills both written and verbalPassionate about delivering exceptional levels of customer serviceAbility to troubleshoot and solve problems efficientlyAble to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levelsAble to produce and understand technical reportsAbility to work at pace and using own initiativeStrong IT skills with the ability to use all MS packages and systemsDesirable Skills:Experience working in a technical support or project coordinationCondition Monitoring experienceBenefitsWhat We Offer YouIn addition to a competitive salary, you will have access to the following benefits:5% Employer Pension contribution25 days annual leave + Bank HolidaysCycle to Work SchemeLife Assurance 4 x annual salaryFinancial/Physical/Mental Health Counselling and Coaching sessionsFree Will writing serviceEAP, which includes 24/7 Doctor accessHealthshield - Cashplan for all employeesFamily Friendly policiesCompany events
