[Up to c. £325k Comp Package | Hybrid Working]

Role Overview

We’re representing a leading quantitative research and technology firm, hiring a Workspace Engineer to join their London-based engineering function. The team is responsible for developing and operating remote developer environments, providing quantitative researchers and software engineers with secure, high-performance Linux platforms hosted on Kubernetes. This is a lean, high-impact team where you’ll work on everything from building reliable environments to designing automation pipelines and improving developer workflows. The setup offers both breadth and depth: while you’ll bring domain expertise in either Linux, Kubernetes, or software engineering, you’ll also gain exposure across the full technology stack. With upcoming projects central to the firm’s infrastructure strategy, you’ll be directly influencing how development at scale is delivered...

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain stable, well-designed developer environments that balance usability, performance, and security
  • Develop automation and CI/CD pipelines (GitOps, infrastructure-as-code) to streamline platform delivery
  • Partner with users to understand workflows, gather feedback, and design solutions that improve the developer experience
  • Ensure security requirements are embedded into platform design, strengthening authentication, access, and data protection controls
  • Develop and enhance monitoring, tracing, and logging for Kubernetes and Linux-based systems
  • Act as a technical advocate for workspace platforms, documenting solutions, producing runbooks, and socialising new features across engineering teams
  • Contribute across the team’s domain areas, while serving as a subject-matter expert in Linux, Kubernetes, or software engineering

What You’ll Bring...

  • Strong programming background - ideally in Python or Go, with the ability to design, build, and debug production-grade software
  • Deep expertise in at least one of the following: Linux engineering - with strong infrastructure fundamentals; Kubernetes - with experience building and operating clusters from the ground up; Software engineering - with experience delivering scalable tools and platforms
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling across the full lifecycle
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation (Terraform, Helm, scripting with Bash/Python)
  • Experience with Go development and Kubernetes operators/controllers
  • Strong Linux fundamentals and experience managing containers, RBAC, networking, and access controls in production environments
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and drive improvements across reliability and performance
  • Knowledge of container runtimes (CRI-O, containerd) and cloud-native networking (e.g. Cilium)
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with telemetry tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry)
  • (Preferred) Experience working with remote development environments (GitHub Codespaces, Gitpod, Coder)
  • (Preferred) Background with virtualised desktop environments such as Citrix or VMware
  • (Preferred) Experience contributing to technical strategy and communicating change across a wide audience
