We’re looking for a skilled Infrastructure Engineer with proven experience in Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, and Azure to join our team in Aberdeen. The role involves providing both operational support and contributing to infrastructure projects within a global enterprise environment.
What you’ll do
- Serve as a 3rd line escalation point for complex infrastructure-related issues, ensuring swift and effective resolution
- Prioritise and manage incidents with a focus on minimising business impact and maintaining service continuity
- Monitor and respond to system events and alerts, proactively identifying potential issues before they escalate
- Lead or contribute to the technical planning and execution of infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with business and IT strategies
- Investigate and resolve recurring problems, performing root cause analysis to prevent future incidents
- Create and maintain high-quality documentation, including operational support guides, and participate in peer reviews to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Ensure infrastructure services remain secure and up to date by maintaining patch and security baselines
- Design, recommend, and implement infrastructure solutions that are scalable, secure, and aligned with best practices
- Act as a technical authority, providing governance and oversight for infrastructure-related change activities
- Collaborate with external vendors, ensuring service levels are met and technical issues are resolved efficiently
What to bring
- Proven experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, ideally within the Oil & Gas sector or other complex environments
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence liaising across all levels including Senior Leadership
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing infrastructure technologies across hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud)
- Technical proficiency in core enterprise platforms, including:
- Microsoft Windows Server (latest versions)
- VMware vSphere and virtualization technologies
- Active Directory and identity management
- Citrix (VDI, remote access solutions)
- Desirable experience with modern and scalable technologies, such as:
- Linux (Red Hat, Ubuntu, etc.)
- NetApp storage solutions
- Dell EMC Isilon (legacy support)
- Microsoft Azure IaaS and cloud migration projects
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices, with a proactive approach to risk mitigation
- Strong analytical skills, including root cause analysis and resolution of business-critical incidents
- Demonstrated interest in emerging technologies, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and service management processes
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure, VMware, Citrix, Linux) are highly advantageous
