Join to apply for the Application Security Engineer role at Motability Operations Ltd.

This is a hands-on engineering position within the Cyber Security function, reporting to the Application Security Team Lead. You’ll actively contribute to code, set up and integrate security tooling, respond to product-related security incidents, and work directly on secure solutions. The aim is to reduce the security burden on product and engineering teams while embedding best practices throughout.

You’ll be integrated into multiple engineering squads, acting as their dedicated security expert and trusted partner. Day to day, you’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders, demonstrate the value of security, and influence positive outcomes—while enabling teams to move quickly and deliver safely. You’ll also help raise our overall software security maturity by shaping governance, championing secure development practices, and driving Motability Operations toward operational excellence in application security.

Responsibilities

• Act as the dedicated security expert within multiple engineering squads, partnering with product and engineering teams.
• Contribute hands-on to secure software development, including writing code and implementing security tooling.
• Respond to product-related security incidents and drive timely, effective remediation.
• Embed secure development practices and governance to reduce security burden on product teams.
• Influence stakeholders to enable fast, safe delivery while demonstrating the value of security.
• Help raise overall software security maturity across the organisation.

About You

• You are passionate about the technical security aspects of application development, with a focus on protecting customer data and high engineering standards.
• Hands-on experience in secure software development or application security testing, with proven collaboration with development teams on security topics.
• Strong communication skills to influence engineers and stakeholders at all levels and build trusted partnerships.
• Understanding of shifting security left in development, with experience in agile delivery and modern technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, React, and Node.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and cloud platforms like AWS.
• Working knowledge of the OWASP Top Ten, common application security frameworks and best practices, and threat modelling techniques.
• Hands-on experience in a Cyber Security focused role, primarily in application security, or a strong hands-on application development background with demonstrable cyber security knowledge.
