Job Title: Assistant Chief Engineer (Stealth)

Salary: £80,000 plus depending on skills and experience, with executive car allowance and benefits on top

What you’ll be doing:

• Acting on behalf of the Joint Design Authority to ensure satisfactory integration of the design solutions across the functional and organisational boundaries to achieve a balanced whole boat solution – stealth through combined performance of signature and combat system
• Own and manage contractual requirements in relation to Stealth
• Work closely with relevant Project Delivery Managers and their Integrated Delivery Teams to ensure the engineered design solution being developed is in accordance with the design intent from the customer
• You will be undertaking reviews throughout the design and build phases in accordance with the BAE Systems Lifecycle Management. With this, you will also, support with reviews (e.g. chair, assessor) at all levels of the design from system level, major system, major function to whole boat reviews integration reviews
• Act as a member of the Joint Design Authority (with delegation from the Engineering Authority), ensuring that the design and underpinning substantiation is safe, legally compliant with legislation / regulation and satisfies the programme requirements
• Support the identification and review of risks and opportunities at all levels at system, key functions, whole boat or programme level
• Undertake certification planning and execution to produce both interim and final Certificates of Design at points aligned to the Design Review programme. In doing so, also being responsible for the overall Design Authority sign-off of the design and ensuring the fitness for purpose and goodness of the design

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

• Considerable background in submarine platform engineering with specific expertise in acoustic, non-acoustic stealth signatures and combat system architecture
• Be degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, with Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
• Demonstrable experience in Acoustic Signatures engineering, including noise and vibration design, radiated acoustic noise (RAN) qualification and associated modelling techniques
• Technical knowledge of non-acoustic signatures such as electromagnetic, radar cross-section, infrared and wake, including relevant modelling and integration methods
• Ability to balance multiple signature types to achieve a coherent whole-boat solution that meets customer requirements for survivability and mission effectiveness
• Experience of submarine (or naval) design processes and integration on complex engineering programmes, ideally spanning multiple functions and suppliers
• Skilled in risk identification, design review and certification planning, ensuring solutions are safe, legally compliant and operationally effective
