Overview

Assistant Mechanical Engineer (Energy) – WSP in the UK & Ireland. Location: UK (flexible across the UK office network). Employment type: Full-time. Seniority level: Entry level.

What you will do

  • Work with the project team to develop cost-effective, efficient and innovative solutions to complex problems to create practical designs based on these solutions
  • Engage on projects at various maturity stages, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design
  • Prepare Mechanical deliverables such as calculations, equipment specifications and datasheets for turbines, compressors, pumps, pressure vessels and heat exchangers
  • Collaborate with process engineers to develop process flow diagrams and piping & instrumentation diagrams
  • Support development of plant layouts and plant 3D models
  • Work with equipment vendors on developing equipment package designs and participate in technical evaluations of vendor designs
  • Provide engineering advice and technical solutions related to plant integrity on operational assets
  • Develop proposals and bids for the mechanical discipline and contribute to multi-disciplinary proposals

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • A Degree in a relevant Engineering subject
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute
  • Post graduate work experience within Power Generation or Oil & Gas industry
  • Knowledge of national and international codes and standards used within the industry for design and manufacturing requirements of plant equipment and piping
  • Experience of carrying out pressure vessel and piping design and stress analysis
  • Experience of working with mechanical designers and pipe stress engineers on plant 3D models
  • Proficient in MS Excel to create schedules and datasheets; MathCAD to undertake engineering calculations
  • Experience of thermal plant operational and integrity issue troubleshooting and problem solving
