Associate Electrical Engineer – Manchester

We’re recruiting an Associate Electrical Engineer to join a dynamic and forward-thinking building services consultancy based in Manchester. This permanent, full-time position (36.25 hours per week) offers a fantastic opportunity to work on diverse, challenging projects within a flexible, agile working environment.

About the role:

As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will take on increased responsibility within project teams, helping to lead the design and delivery of electrical systems on a range of building services projects. This role suits someone ready to step up from a senior engineer position and contribute more significantly to technical leadership, client engagement, and project management.

You will be involved in all stages of the project lifecycle—from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design and handover—working alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, sustainable engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage electrical design tasks across medium to large projects
  • Oversee junior team members, providing technical guidance and support
  • Develop detailed electrical designs, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and small power systems
  • Prepare technical specifications, calculations, and reports
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., BS, CIBSE, Building Regulations)
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, structural, and architectural teams to coordinate integrated solutions
  • Engage directly with clients, consultants, and contractors to build strong working relationships
  • Support project management activities, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management
  • Contribute to sustainable design practices, incorporating low-carbon and renewable technologies
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through continuous professional development

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Working towards or holding professional registration (e.g., CEng, IEng, CIBSE, IET)
  • Proficient with design and calculation software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Amtech, Dialux/Relux, and Microsoft Office
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and relevant legislation and standards
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior engineers
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with clients and stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach with a passion for sustainability and innovation

What you can expect:

  • Competitive salary with performance-based incentives
  • Clear pathway for career progression towards Senior and Principal roles
  • Flexible working arrangements blending office and remote work
  • Comprehensive benefits package including generous annual leave, cycle to work scheme, and enhanced family leave policies
  • Support for professional development and study leave
  • Employee wellbeing initiatives including EAP and health vouchers
  • An inclusive, collaborative company culture committed to diversity and social responsibility

If you are ready to elevate your career and take on a leadership role in a consultancy that values innovation and sustainability, this is the role for you.
