The Opportunity:
As an Associate Infrastructure Engineer, specialising in highways and drainage, you will have the opportunity to lead on the design and delivery of major infrastructure projects, including a long-term strategic housing scheme in Hampshire. You'll collaborate with colleagues across the business, manage client relationships directly, and take responsibility for both the technical quality of work and the development of your team.
This role is ideal for an experienced Principal Engineer looking to step into Associate level, or an existing Associate seeking a new challenge with scope to shape projects, influence design, and grow into a more senior leadership position over time.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
·Lead the design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure projects, including large urban extensions.
·Oversee Section 38, Section 278 and Section 104 submissions and liaise with adopting authorities.
·Manage and mentor junior engineers, building capability within your team.
·Work directly with clients, local authorities, planning consultants, and stakeholders to shape project outcomes.
·Ensure technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery of all outputs.
·Monitor budgets, manage project finances, and contribute to business development activities.
·Split your time between the Aldershot office (minimum 3 days) and project work in Hampshire (1 day per week in Waterlooville).
What We're Looking For:
We're seeking an Associate with proven experience in highways and drainage design, leadership skills, and a passion for delivering complex projects. You will have the opportunity to thrive if you bring:
·Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
·Chartered Engineer status (ICE or CIHT).
·Proven experience in UK highway and drainage infrastructure projects, from feasibility through to delivery.
·Strong knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets, MCHW, LTN 1/20 and other design standards.
·Extensive experience in Section 38, Section 278 and Section 104 processes.
·Proven project management skills, including financial oversight.
·Experience liaising with local authorities and stakeholders on planning and technical submissions.
·Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
·Full UK driving licence (site visits required).
Additional beneficial experience includes:
·Familiarity with Hampshire County Council's technical approval process.
·Experience with SuDS strategies, drainage design, and software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and InfoDrainage.
·Knowledge of NEC contract forms and experience as an NEC Supervisor.
·Prior involvement in mentoring junior staff and business development.
