Job Description

GTIS Public Cloud Engineering is a global team of circa 100 colleagues based in the UK, India, and the US. We are responsible for strategic engineering and delivery of Public Cloud services within Enterprise Technology. Our team is leading the migration of Barclays applications to the cloud, focusing on AWS and Azure platforms, and expanding to meet the objective of “You Build It, You Own It”.

This role is for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) involved in the entire lifecycle of feature development, from design to production support, shaping our SRE capabilities. We seek an experienced Engineer who is motivated, supportive, and capable of thriving in a dynamic environment, leading technical discussions and communicating with stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making under uncertainty are essential.

To be successful as an Azure – Site Reliability Engineer, you should have:

• Microsoft Azure Accreditation and experience with Azure services, architecture, and best practices.
• Proficiency in Python for automation, tooling, and infrastructure management.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.

Additional valued skills include:

• Familiarity with ITIL framework.
• Experience working within Agile/Kanban teams.
• Ability to collaborate across teams for seamless deployment and integration.

The role can be based in Knutsford or Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

Apply software engineering, automation, and incident response best practices to ensure system reliability, availability, and scalability.

Accountabilities

• Ensure system performance and scalability through monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
• Respond to outages and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
• Develop automation tools to reduce manual work and improve resilience.
• Optimize system performance and resource usage.
• Collaborate with development teams to embed reliability and performance best practices.
• Stay updated on industry trends and contribute to technology communities.
