Overview

Back End Engineer - Partner Tech role at iwoca. Hybrid in London / Remote within the UK.

The Company

Imagine a world where every small business has the power to thrive. Since 2012, iwoca has revolutionised how small businesses access finance, turning a lengthy process into fast, flexible funding that actually works for modern businesses. We have provided billions in funding to more than 150,000 businesses across Europe and aim to empower one million businesses with the financial tools they deserve. We combine cutting-edge technology and data science with genuine human understanding to make finance a superpower for businesses.

The Team

The Partner Tech team builds features and optimises flows to provide the best experience for iwoca’s partners and the customers they refer. Partners use iwoca’s Lending API to embed loans into their customer journeys. The team’s responsibilities include:

  • Continually improving our Lending API and other developer tools to enable quick, easy partner integration.
  • Adding functionality to facilitate deeper integrations and position iwoca as the best embedded finance provider on the market.
  • Improving the conversion rate of customers from partners by streamlining the journey and removing obstacles.

The team is composed of two engineers plus a product manager, working closely with internal commercial stakeholders. Partner Tech is remote/hybrid-friendly, with team days in the office once or twice a month. We work in an Agile fashion with two-week sprints and a daily standup.

The Role

You’ll work on challenging projects across iwoca’s codebase to improve outcomes for partners and partner-referred customers. You’ll be encouraged to bring your own ideas and take responsibility for areas of functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver new functionality critical to onboarding important new partners.
  • Optimise the customer experience with measurable improvements.
  • Leave code, docs, and processes in better shape than you found them.
  • Work on systems that help businesses obtain funding and collaborate with partners and internal stakeholders to design effective solutions.
  • Use data to inform decisions and refine strategies.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience designing and building scalable back-end systems, ideally in Python with Django.
  • Experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, with attention to performance and maintainability.
  • Experience building and maintaining APIs that are easy to use, reliable, and well-documented.
  • Experience managing projects end to end, from understanding business problems to delivering technical solutions.
  • Pragmatism in balancing delivery speed with long-term system health.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication, focused on outcomes and impact.

Bonus:

  • Front-end development experience, particularly with React and Typescript.
  • DevOps practices, including containerisation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience using data to inform technical decisions or product improvements.
