Job Description

Job Title: Body In White Design Principal Engineer

Location: Cranfield

Pay Rate: £27.94 via PAYE (inside IR35)

Length of contract: 12 months

Working pattern: Minimum 3 days in the office / 2 days at home (may change depending on workload)

Must have experience in: BIW (Body In White), Catia, GD (Grade Delay)

The person will carry out design activities related to innovative technologies, cost optimization, and breakthrough ideas for BEV (Battery EV) vehicles, focusing on both future and current production vehicles.
Scope includes platform commodities: Body in White (BIW) and trim components (acoustic and aerodynamic parts).
Study technical solutions (benchmarking, FMEA, designing parts and systems), build business cases (cost analysis), lead validation, and adopt new designs.
Lead/support communication and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders, including design teams, suppliers, manufacturing, testing, product planning, and project management.
Collaborate with Nissan Technical and Business Centres in Europe, Nissan Japan R&D, and Nissan India support centre.

Minimum HNC/HND or international equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. Degree level qualification is preferred.
Experience working with metal pressings, assembly, and/or trim parts is necessary; experience in both is advantageous but not mandatory.
Extensive experience in automotive design, preferably with Tier 1 suppliers or OEMs.
Supplier management experience is necessary.
Experience with other automotive OEMs is highly desirable.
CAD skills (preferably NX) are highly preferable but not mandatory.
A valid UK/EU driving licence is required.
Proficiency in English sufficient to carry out job responsibilities.
