Chief Systems Engineer

New Today

Overview

As Chief Systems Engineer, you will work within the Typhoon delivery sector as deputy to the Euro radar Chief Engineer, co-ordinating the Leonardo UK Systems Engineering activity of the two main software products, which target the Typhoon P3E and P4E Weapons System Standards. ECRS Mk0 is a highly visible product with its success as a product being critical to future business winning for Leonardo. This role represents an opportunity to contribute to the success of the ECRS Mk0 Radar System and achieve customer satisfaction, which is pivotal to future business outcomes for Leonardo.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience of Radar Systems Design and/or Qualification at a Lead Engineer level.
  • Familiarity with Pulsed Doppler radar waveform design and signal processing implementation.
  • Familiarity with radar tracking and trade-offs against supporting detection schemes.
  • Experience of certification to recognised standards including Integration, Test, Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain SC security clearance and work within UKEO and US ITAR TAA restrictions.
  • Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities, with a demonstrable ability to make, and help teams make, timely decisions.
  • Capability to identify and direct improvements to complex technical and business processes, judging the balance between the cost and impact of change and its resulting benefits.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate maintenance of ECRS Mk0 System Engineering Development Plan and ITEAP. A key aim is to improve test and verification at a functional design level, leading to improved containment of design defects prior to implementation.
  • Define the functional architecture for the ECRS Mk0 Radar System, taking into account the optimal software implementation strategy to minimise risk of regression, with a key aim of achieving maximum commonality with other ECRS marks.
  • Coordinate the system functional design with the ECRS Mk2 and Captor MScan teams, to minimise exposure of Leonardo to fragmentation of approach at the Weapons System level.
  • Ensure that output from requirements analysis activities to initial ‘white box’ design leads to optimal partition of functionality between Radar Tracker, Pre-Track Filter and Modes for clear air and contested EM environments, providing specialist guidance on best design practices and leverage of capability within the Radar Common Delivery Teams (CDTs).
  • Lead the development and maintenance of Subject Matter Experts within the Sector, to ensure business continuity for bespoke elements of the ECRS Mk0 design, including succession planning for this role and sufficient retained SQEP within Leonardo for partner company contributions.
  • You will be the key contributor from Leonardo UK to the Euroradar Systems Engineering Group.
  • Chair internal design reviews within the IPT, validating the implementation approach both within the IPT and with the Purchaser (BAE SYSTEMS).
  • Review Integrated Project Team Engineering Plans to ensure they comply with company policy, in particular considering the design governance and certification activities.

What Else Would Help

  • A 2:1 or higher in a relevant engineering or science-based honours degree.
  • Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
  • Experience of the application of the regulatory environment for airborne products, e.g. MAA, EASA.
  • Experience of delivering training and awareness courses.
  • Experience with Matlab, Simulink, Siemens Teamcenter, IBM DOORS.
