We are seeking an experienced Contract Civil Engineer to support the rollout of EV charging infrastructure across the UK. This urgent contract role focuses on the design and coordination of civil works, including ducting, trenching, foundations, and power connection interfaces.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering civil elements of EV charging sites, working closely with internal teams, utility providers, and on-site contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Key responsibilities of the Contract Civil Connections Engineer:

  • Design and oversee civil infrastructure works including cable ducting, trenching, foundation pads, and access arrangements
  • Coordinate with DNOs, IDNOs, and ICPs to enable LV and HV power connections from point of connection to charge points
  • Produce or review site layouts, ducting diagrams, trench cross-sections, and foundation drawings
  • Conduct site surveys and technical assessments to evaluate feasibility
  • Prepare method statements, risk assessments, and construction sequencing plans
  • Monitor on-site construction works to ensure compliance with design, health and safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Liaise with contractors, clients, local authorities, and internal technical teams throughout project delivery

Requirements of the Contract Civil Connections Engineer:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in civil or structural engineering, with involvement in infrastructure utility connections
  • Practical understanding of ducting/trenching for electrical works and coordination with utility providers
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and civil design software such as Civil 3D
  • Familiar with UK construction and utility standards, including CDM Regulations, NRSWA, and DNO specifications
  • Strong coordination, reporting, and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in EV charging, renewables, utilities, or highways sectors
  • Previous work with DNOs, IDNOs, or ICPs
  • Knowledge of reinforced concrete and steel detailing for small-scale foundations
  • CSCS card or SMSTS certification


This is a hybrid role with both office-based and on-site responsibilities. Travel to project sites across the UK is required, with occasional overnight stays depending on location.
