Contract Civil Engineer – Drainage Specialist
UK-Based | Remote / Hybrid | Outside IR35
6–12 Month Contract (extension likely)

The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civils Engineer to join our dynamic southern based team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and Microdrainage / Infodrainage, coupled with a deep understanding of earthworks design, drainage systems, pavement design, and 3D underground services coordination. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet cost, schedule, and quality standards.
Key Objectives
* Comprehensive Infrastructure Design: Undertake all aspects of infrastructure design across diverse project sizes and sectors.
* Technical Proficiency: Utilise Autodesk Civil 3D and Microdrainage / Infodrainageeffectively to achieve project goals.
* Project Delivery: Deliver design packages that meet cost, schedule, and quality criteria
* Team Collaboration: Work seamlessly within a fully integrated, multidiscipline design team to ensure project success.
Qualifications and Training
* HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Ability to hold or previous holder of UK security clearance (BPSS minimum).
The Role
You’ll be embedded within our civil engineering project team, delivering drainage design and strategy packages for planning applications, detailed design phases, and construction support. You’ll also interface with planning authorities and utilities to drive approvals and ensure designs are fully compliant.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and review foul and surface water drainage designs using MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage and Civil 3D.
*
Produce SuDS strategies, drainage drawings, and technical reports for planning submissions.
*
Prepare or contribute to Flood Risk Assessments and drainage impact assessments.
*
Ensure designs align with UK standards (Building Regs, S104/S106/S185, Sewers for Adoption/DCG).
*
Engage with clients, architects, contractors, and local authorities.
*
Coordinate drainage design through RIBA stages 2–5.
*
Support tender submissions with technical input where required.
️ You’ll Need:
*
Proven experience in UK drainage design (minimum 5+ years).
*
Proficient in Civil 3D, MicroDrainage (or InfoDrainage), and AutoCAD.
*
In-depth knowledge of SuDS, drainage legislation, and LLFA requirements.
*
Familiarity with S104, S106, and planning policy relevant to drainage.
*
Experience in preparing technical reports, calculations, and drawings.
*
Strong communication skills and ability to manage work across multiple projects.
Bonus Points For:
*
Experience contributing to Flood Risk Assessments (FRA).
*
Working knowledge of GIS software for catchment analysis.
*
Exposure to highways drainage or infrastructure projects.
*
Near or chartered status (MICE or equivalent – not essential for contract role).
