Civil Engineer Marine and Tunnelling works 1319CW Hinkley Point C – with some flexibility of working from home (minimum 3 days in the office) PAYE £386.74 or £539.18 Umbrella Working as part of the Joint Design Office (JDO) you will: Ensure all design and construction changes are delivered on time to meet Construction need. Attend readiness reviews of Design Packages released for construction as and when required by design owners. Work closely with the Design teams, Contractor and Construction teams to maintain technical quality responses (content / consistency / comprehensiveness / accuracy), construction programme and construction safety. Operating Environment The Tunnel Engineer is the technical lead reviewing and accepting the changes to the design raised by the site contractor, responsible for managing interfaces between the construction contractors and the designers. Framework & Boundaries Reporting to the Area Lead you will ensure delivery of: Supporting the marine and tunnelling works, with a thorough technical understanding of the plant, its systems and the associated safety case. Responsibility to manage the site construction configuration. Managing design changes, reviewing and accepting site specific design documents. Principal Accountabilities A Tunnel Engineer who can provide technical expertise to ensure the review, acceptance and technical delivery of design changes during construction of the marine works will thrive in this role. The successful role holder will have a working knowledge of concrete design codes such as Eurocode 2 and their application in the marine and tunnelling environment. We'll value your existing skills and experience while providing the opportunity to work closely with the JDO Design Team and Construction team to maintain the technical quality of responses (content / consistency / exhaustiveness / accuracy) and construction safety. The principal accountabilities for the R&A Engineer are: The review and acceptance of design changes proposed by the contractor or designer through Request for Information, Field Change Request or Non-Conformance Report. Support the JDO in the handover of Design Packages released for construction and initiate the delegated responsibilities through this process. Ensure that processes comply with project quality procedures. Management of CDM aspects relating to the design changes during the construction period, including discharging the role of principle designer. Responsible for the nuclear safety acceptance of the design by carrying out surveillance on the design changes during construction. Safety case/golden thread: in the review and acceptance process, ensure the high-level safety case and the design have a clear golden thread to support operations. Knowledge & Skills Essential Strong knowledge of secondary lining to tunnels and shafts using reinforced concrete methods in the marine and tunnelling environment. Strong knowledge of pipe jacking and associated launch/termination structures. 3+ years of design experience of TBM, pipe jack and secondary lining tunnelling structures. Design process and design activities (preferably related to Nuclear Industry). Working knowledge of Concrete design codes (e.g. Eurocode 2). Design with hazard & accidental safety cases. Working within UK CDM regulations and in a highly regulated industry. Delivery-oriented and ability to set action plans and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and under pressure. Proactive, pragmatic and adopting a practical approach to resolve issues. Desirable Knowledge of pipe jack construction methods and of common defects and their associated repair methods. Knowledge of common defects to RC underground structures and their repair methods. Experience in the design of offshore structures. Experience working in a construction environment with clients, designers and contractors. Working knowledge of construction change procedures. Working in large-scale, multi-cultural industrial project with safety case architecture. Understanding and application of the Intelligent Customer Role. Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements. Familiar with JDO processes and ways of working. Familiarity with safety case process and design substantiation. Qualifications & Experience Essential Advanced degree in civil or structural engineering subject, civil or structural Engineering. Working towards / Chartered Engineer with either ICE or IStructE. Desirable Medium Risk Confined Space qualification. Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme (TSTS) qualification. PWR technology design, safety case or operation.
