We are currently working with a well-established and independently owned engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior Civil Engineer to play a leading role within their Civils Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer to work across a broad portfolio of infrastructure projects, including residential, commercial, and highways schemes.
The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of a wide variety of projects—from small-scale highway improvements to large, multi-million-pound developments. You will take technical ownership of schemes and have the opportunity to mentor junior staff, shape project delivery, and develop your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.
The Role
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll lead the design and delivery of civil engineering projects, including:
Access junctions (e.g. roundabouts, signalised junctions, ghost-island right turns, priority junctions)
Site-wide infrastructure for residential and commercial developments
Highway improvements and associated drainage strategiesYou’ll ensure that all work is carried out in line with current legislation, local authority policies, and industry best practice, while delivering to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and technical delivery of infrastructure schemes, from concept through to detailed design
Produce compliant designs for highways, drainage, and earthworks using 3D modelling tools
Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
Manage technical input across multiple projects simultaneously
Liaise with clients, local authorities, architects, and stakeholders
Oversee and mentor junior team members
Support the preparation of proposals and project bids
Produce and review technical reports, drawings, and documentation
Requirements:
Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Ideally 8+ years' post-graduate experience in civil/infrastructure design within a consultancy environment
Proven experience with Section 278 and Section 38 highway designs, and Section 104 drainage designs
Strong knowledge of horizontal and vertical road alignment design
Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Vehicle Tracking, KeyLINES/SIGN/POST, and MicroDrainage
Excellent understanding of industry standards such as DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, NRSWA, and others
Experience of working with Local Authority and Highways design and adoption processes
Good project management, time management, and record-keeping skills
Ability to deliver quality work on time and to budget
Strong communication and report-writing abilities
Experience mentoring or managing junior engineers or technicians
Desirable:
Chartered or working towards Chartered status (ICE, CIHT, CIWEM)
Experience with active travel or cycling infrastructure schemes
Public realm design or major highways experience
Utilities coordination or site monitoring/supervision experience
Ability to support with commercial tasks, including proposal preparation
