Overview

About biomodal. Join the multiomic revolution! Over the last 20 years, genomic technologies have enabled significant discoveries that bring the promise of personalised medicine closer than ever before. But after two decades of research, it's clear that genetic variation only tells part of the story - biology is dynamic and more complex than A, C, T, G. Already, the added information from a multiomic view of biology is yielding important insights into cancer, ageing, and neurological disease, and is poised to revolutionise how we understand health and disease beyond canonical variation in DNA.

biomodal is an omics-based life sciences technology and analytics company, delivering products that bring the dynamism of our ever-changing biology into focus. Our team is dedicated to developing the most advanced solutions to interrogate and understand the complex interplay of genomics and epigenomics.

We have launched our first products, the duet +modC and duet evoC solutions, with more in the pipeline, and are looking to grow and evolve our business accordingly. This is an incredible opportunity to step into an exciting, early-stage company at the cutting edge of science with exceptional growth and market impact potential.

Multiomics is the future - come and join the biomodal team!

Permanent/Full time. Hybrid working (2 days per week in office) - London or Cambridge location.

The Team

Do you want a role that will allow you to be responsible for both the creation, delivery and maintenance of your code to the cloud?

You'll be joining a dynamic Software and DevOps team dedicated to delivering high-performance omics analysis software. The team works closely with researchers and bioinformaticians to build scalable, secure, and user-friendly platforms that accelerate scientific discovery. Collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning are at the heart of how we work.

The Role

The focus of this role is being biomodal's cloud infrastructure and deployment expert, building, troubleshooting and interfacing with all aspects of the business regarding our cloud tenancy. You'll work with cutting-edge cloud technologies, collaborate with software engineers, bioinformaticians and wet-lab scientists, and build tools that make complex research intuitive and accessible. From infrastructure-as-code, automation pipelines to secure data environments, your work will directly impact how science gets done.

  • Manage cloud infrastructure across GCP, AWS, and Azure, including IAM and cloud-native services.
  • Use Infrastructure-as-code to describe, deploy and maintain our compute environments and storage. We use Terraform, but knowledge of an equivalent technology is fine.
  • Architect and implement scalable backend services and APIs for data-intensive applications.
  • Build middleware that integrates cloud services with platforms like Benchling, BaseSpace, and Seqera.
  • Write clean, efficient code in Go, Python, and Bash, and contribute to shared codebases.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster best practices in software development and DevOps.
  • Develop bespoke automation pipelines to streamline bioinformatics workflows and data handling.
  • Collaborate with scientists and stakeholders to translate research needs into technical solutions.
  • Maintain and optimize compute environments for performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection standards such as HIPAA and GDPR

The Person

The ideal candidate will be an expert in cloud development and administration, with in-depth knowledge of technologies and deployment best practices. We are looking for an experienced individual who will take ownership of their work and engage laterally across a diverse biotechnology business to support multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools, secrets management, and database technologies (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, BigQuery).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.

Nice to have

  • Security & Compliance - Understanding of HIPAA, GDPR, and secure cloud practices.
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments (HPC).
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
  • Background in biotech, life sciences or bioinformatics.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics platforms such as Benchling, BaseSpace, and Seqera.
  • Experience with Nextflow and workflow orchestration.
