Senior Commissioning Engineer – Battery Energy Storage (Contract)

Location: UK-wide (site-based travel required)

Contract: Freelance / Contract ONLY

Edison Smart are seeking senior-level Commissioning Engineers with proven expertise in Battery Energy Storage Systems. You’ll lead commissioning on grid-scale projects across the UK, ensuring systems are delivered, tested, and handed over on time and to specification.

What do we need from you?

• Lead commissioning of utility-scale BESS, including LV/MV equipment, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
• Execute FAT/SAT, protection testing, and functional validation of systems.
• Troubleshoot BMS, SCADA, PLCs, and communication networks.
• Ensure compliance with BS 7671, G99/G100, and site safety protocols.
• Produce commissioning documentation and client handover packages.

Requirements:

• 5+ years’ commissioning experience on BESS or comparable large-scale power systems.
• Strong knowledge of HV/LV electrical distribution, grid codes, and protection schemes.
• Experience with SCADA/BMS integration and industrial communication protocols.
• HV Authorised Person and 18th Edition highly desirable.
• Flexibility to travel nationwide, CSCS/ECS required.
