Job Purpose / Overview
To provide professional, high quality engineering support to the HPC Project on behalf of the Plant Integration Function of the NNB Engineering Directorate and to ensure that the proposed design is compliant with UK regulations and context.
Contextual Information
EDF has an established UK-based New Nuclear Build team (NNB Genco) developing EDF's interests in new nuclear in the UK. EDF's ambition is to construct and operate two new EPR's at Hinkley Point in Somerset. Each plant will cost several billion pounds to construct and at the operating stage will employ several hundred people.
The Plant Integration team is responsible for ensuring the configuration and control of the HPC Nuclear Power Plant design to underpin the timely and effective delivery of the overall project schedule. It assists with progressing aspects such as consistent design compliant to a set of agreed requirements and consistently implemented in the physical installation (also known as the as build configuration)
This role requires high levels of technical and organisational skills along with the ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Principal Accountabilities
- The primary responsibility of the role of Configuration Engineer is to support the Technical Integration Branch of Plant Integration in coordinating HPC's activities within the Configuration Management processes.
- This will involve providing technical assistance and managing activities so that the Configuration Management processes owned by Plant Integration are properly, adequately and efficiently implemented across the project.
The main scope is as follow:
- Along with the rest of the Configuration Management Team, the role will be the preferred point of contact within HPC for configuration management processes. In particular, the technical point of contact for Engineering Managers and Design Entities for all configuration management topics.
- Coordinates the contributions from HPC stakeholders to the progression of configuration management processes including resolution of Open Points, Design Changes, referential changes, and progressing agreements on Technical Interface attributes.
- Is responsible for controlling, supporting, overall steering and monitoring of the end-to-end configuration activities.
- Is involved in Design Handovers to NNB to ensure configuration control is maintained.
In addition, the post-holder may be required to perform other tasks relevant for the project or to the personal development of the post holder.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in a relevant science or engineering subject or strong technical background preferred
- Chartered Engineer status preferred
- Experience within the Nuclear Industry preferred
- Experience of process development and application within engineering projects
- Understanding of quality arrangements required and associated with nuclear plant construction preferred
- Understanding of equipment engineering requirements
- Knowledge of design processes and activities related to Nuclear Industry
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements
- Knowledge of power station design is desirable (EPR or NPP)
- Proficient project management, organisational and Coordination skills
- Great communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Decision making and escalation ability for resolution of issues
- Knowledge of budget and schedule management
- Knowledge of French is desirable
- Ability to travel to different project locations including France
Technical Competencies
- Engineering or technical discipline experience
- Understanding of analysis tools and methods, combined with the ability to apply them
- Have experience of process development
- Understand quality arrangements and preferably those associated with nuclear plant construction
- Understand engineering requirements
- Demonstrate ownership of a process and demonstrate proactivity in resolving Configuration Management issues
- Ability to extract and compile relevant data according to the task in hand, often from numerous sources
- Analysis of technical documents
- Performs analysis of data highlighting and summarising relevant issues
- Maintains accurate and timely records (systems, databases, spreadsheets).
- Can develop and adapt theories to deliver project milestones
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvements to procedures, processes and/or systems
