What We Are Looking For

An opportunity is available for an experienced Consultant Civil Engineer (Outside of IR35) to provide independent contract services to support the multi-discipline delivery of major energy development studies. These projects include Gigawatt Scale Green Hydrogen, Major Carbon Capture Transportation and Storage, and New Development / Modification Studies to Oil and Gas assets. We are seeking a senior / experienced Civil / Structural consultant, located in Aberdeen or London, to provide design services for onshore and coastal UK and international energy development projects. These projects are typically progressing through conceptual and pre-FEED project stages and will therefore require an experienced engineer to propose design solutions without necessarily calculating every aspect of the design.

Genesis UK Operating Centre (Aberdeen and London) is organised into core delivery teams providing advisory services globally across services and markets. You will support the UK Project and Discipline Engineering delivery team, currently comprising circa 50+ engineers, project engineers and study managers, in six core discipline study teams: Project Engineering and Operations / Piping, Mechanical and Construction / Electrical / Control, Instrumentation & Telecommunications / Structural, Civil and Marine / Decommissioning.

Scope of Services

Key responsibilities of the role require onshore Civil and Coastal Engineering project lifecycle knowledge and will include:

  • Contribute to (typically) early stage multi-discipline engineering studies, providing onshore civil and geotechnical engineering expertise for greenfield and brownfield projects, including:
  • Site preparation, earthworks, cut and fill calculation, flood assessment
  • Layout – Foundations and earthworks, temporary enabling works, permanent concrete and steel structures
  • Geotechnical – Specification of onshore site investigation, interpretation of soil data, foundation design (shallow and piled), and temporary works
  • Jetty design
  • Brownfield tie-ins with existing infrastructure
  • Process vessel and equipment transport and installation
  • Participating in all civil and geotechnical engineering discipline activities including preparation and checking of documents, philosophies, specifications, procedures, standards etc.
  • Greenfield and brownfield cost estimation for civil and geotechnical activities
  • Scope and carry out varied civil and geotechnical engineering studies as per client scope of work
  • Participate in and contribute to safety reviews (e.g. HAZID)
  • Participate in and contribute to design, layout, construction, and technical impact assessments / reviews
  • Ensuring civil and geotechnical discipline design is performed in compliance with project requirements, best industry practice and satisfies all relevant statutory, safety and quality standards (incl. CDM requirements)
  • Preparation of, in conjunction with other disciplines, study reports, technical notes and project specifications
  • Review and comment of client / 3rd party design deliverables
  • Seek optimised project solutions, coordinating with multi-disciplinary inputs to challenge and continuously improve / innovate

Requirements

Requirements of the services include:

  • Recognised degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Professional qualification and membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers (CEng MICE or MIStructE)
  • Demonstrated discipline leadership experience in technical delivery on a variety of onshore projects
  • Practical knowledge and experience of Civil & structural design, maintenance, assessment, and implementation
  • Good understanding of Eurocodes, local codes, standards, and best industry practice
  • Excellent report-writing, reviewing, communication, client-handling, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent project management skills and experience related to Civil and Geotechnical design in onshore plants and working within multi-disciplinary facilities design / delivery
  • Proficient technical design and problem-solving skills
