Job Title: Consultant – Materials Engineer (Metallurgy)Location: Barrow-in-Furness – We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements.Salary: CompetitiveWhat you’ll be doing:Provide metallurgical support to all functions, in particular Operations, Engineering and The Supply Chain on emergent issues arising during submarine build and commissioningOffer metallurgical support to Submarine design engineering teams to ensure the use of appropriate materials and the management of corrosionSupport to knowledge transfer within the Materials Technology departmentIdentify areas of research for exploitation, lead research activities and author reportsProvide specialist metallurgical guidance within the department to ensure a work and investigations are processed and reported in a consistent and timely mannerThe review and maintenance of relevant Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards and Operating ProceduresEffective communication within and external to the department on the initiation and application of solutions and processesManage with authority on forging, casting and metal forming processesYour skills and experiences:Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in metallurgy or materials scienceDetailed knowledge on ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgyDetailed knowledge and experience on metal forming and processingExperience of working with and developing a team of metallurgistsExperience in the development and maintenance of metallurgical related workmanship Standards and Process InstructionsDetailed knowledge of the capability and use of Metallurgical Mechanical and Metallographic testingBenefits:As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.The Materials team consists of over 50 specialists of Metallurgical, Polymer, Welding and materials backgrounds.
