Our client is searching for a Cloud Backend Engineer to join their innovative technology environment, where you will play a key role in developing cloud-based infrastructure and systems that power next-generation applications. Responsibilities

• Design and Innovate: Architect and implement backend systems and APIs that scale effortlessly, ensuring performance, security, and reliability
• Drive Microservices Excellence: Develop modular microservices that work independently while contributing to a cohesive ecosystem
• Cloud Leadership: Build, monitor, and optimise cloud infrastructure across major platforms, ensuring seamless deployments and cost-effective operations
• Security and Compliance: Implement forward-thinking security measures to protect sensitive data and uphold industry standards
• Work Agile: Be part of the full development lifecycle from ideation through to deployment in an agile, sprint-led environment
• Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with experts in engineering, product, medtech, bioware, chemistry and hardware, ensuring full-spectrum alignment on projects

Qualifications

You will bring with you a solid foundation in backend software engineering, ideally within cloud-native environments. You are excited to engage with microservices, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure that spans AWS, GCP or Azure. You are driven by clean architecture, elegant APIs and scalable systems and you are always looking to optimise and improve.

You will get hands-on with:

• Cloud services and DevOps toolchains such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform
• Backend languages such as Java, Python, Go or Node.js
• RESTful API design and integration
• Cloud monitoring and cost optimisation strategies
• Debugging and performance tuning of distributed systems

Additional Skills

• A background in Computer Science or a related discipline
• 5+ years of experience in backend or cloud engineering roles
• Proficiency in modern backend languages including Java, Python, Go or Node.js
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure
• Familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL database technologies
• Understanding of microservices and distributed architecture
• DevOps awareness including CI/CD, Docker and Kubernetes
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Awareness of security and compliance in cloud environments
• Tools such as Kafka, messaging queues or configuration management software

Location and Flexibility

In Oxfordshire, the majority of the week
