The Control System Engineering team engages on all aspects of high-level support for the control systems within the Amazon FC’s. This work includes direct field engagement for launch and existing facilities, commissioning, on-call support, continuous improvement, change management, project management, training, security, infrastructure and systems administration. In this role, you will drive strategic partnerships with key stakeholders including Operations, field RME, Process Engineering, Operations Engineering, World-Wide Design and other engineering entities. Your team delivers robust lifecycle management approaches that are scalable, reduce manual work and lower the total cost of ownership of the systems you support. You will achieve this through the use of statistics and data analytics, structured problem solving, implementation of global support mechanisms, system performance monitoring tools, identification and dissemination of best practices. You will develop and implement standard operating procedures, optimal code/parameter sets, performance metrics, and feedback mechanisms to ensure reliability and operational efficiency of our equipment.

  • Understand and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, ASi), motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Programming and source coding for in-house built solutions based in PLC or PC controllers and SCADA/OEE platforms.
  • Develop solutions related to Automation Systems.
  • Manage projects (PM) of large-scale initiatives that require coordinating site-based Automation Engineers (AE) to accomplish business goals.
  • Apply subject matter expertise (SME) in troubleshooting and dive deep for engineering issues, supporting local teams to investigate root causes and plan actions to eliminate or mitigate downtime of critical assets.
  • Create, optimize and monitor key performance indicators (KPI) for control of machine efficiency, availability and quality, generating reports for improvement.
  • Manage and coordinate with vendors to plan and resolve tickets for local teams or network-wide issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and decision-making for collaboration projects or initiatives with other Amazon teams, serving as a key stakeholder in supporting technical and major network support requests.
  • Ensure remote troubleshooting capability is available on a rotational basis to provide 24/7/365 support for all hardware or controls software systems at site locations.
  • Ability to travel up to 80%.

About the team: Will work on a team focused on improving equipment performance and department standards in low trending ARS/iXD and other BU sites in North America, including the new launch sites.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or BS/BA with 4+ years’ maintenance experience or 2+ years Amazon experience.
  • Experience leading change management in multiple site environments.
  • Experience commissioning or accepting equipment from integrator.
  • Experience troubleshooting and implementing corrective actions.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in industrial controls and automation.
  • Exhibit knowledge and experience with major MHE integrators.
  • Experience driving goals with minimal day-to-day supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exposure to Lean concepts, TOC, layout design, cost/benefit analysis, labor productivity analysis (time studies, standardized work), safety/ergonomic/human factors.
  • MBA or other Master’s degree and/or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification a plus.
  • Manufacturing or complex industry experience leading controls.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $193,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
