About Our Client Our client is a global leader in data centre operations, known for its commitment to engineering excellence and an innovative, employee-first culture. As an
employee-owned business , every member of the team has a vested interest in the company's success, which fosters a unique environment of collaboration, responsibility, and high performance. They are now expanding their expert engineering team and are seeking a senior data centre professional to contribute to their global portfolio.
The Opportunity This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior M&E Data Centre Engineer to move into a
remote-first role
that combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic, site-specific project work. While your base will be anywhere in the UK, you will act as a key technical resource for data centre operations across Europe and beyond. This role is not a desk job; it requires a blend of remote duties and regular, planned travel to various facilities for critical projects and high-level technical support. You will be a trusted authority, providing technical guidance to on-site teams and leading commissioning, upgrade, and major maintenance projects. Your experience will be leveraged to optimise and standardise M&E systems across a diverse and growing portfolio.
Key Responsibilities Remote Technical Support:
Act as the first point of contact for complex M&E issues from on-site engineering teams across our clients European portfolio. Provide remote diagnosis, troubleshooting, and guidance to ensure swift resolution. Project Leadership:
Take a leading role in the
commissioning and handover
of new data centre builds and major upgrades. Oversee critical mechanical and electrical projects, ensuring they are completed to the highest standards. M&E Subject Matter Expert:
Serve as the go-to expert for all things M&E. Your knowledge will be instrumental in the design review of new facilities, ensuring all systems are robust, efficient, and meet the company's rigorous standards. Operational Excellence:
Develop, refine, and enforce best practice for M&E maintenance, procedures, and documentation. Conduct audits to ensure site teams are in full compliance with operational standards and safety protocols. Troubleshooting:
Use your extensive experience to perform root cause analysis (RCA) for complex incidents, providing detailed reports and actionable recommendations to prevent future occurrences. Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate effectively with senior management, project teams, and external vendors. Your ability to communicate complex technical information to a variety of stakeholders is crucial. Candidate Requirements Experience:
A minimum of
8 years of hands-on M&E experience
within a data centre or other mission-critical environment Background:
We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked for a
recognised data centre consultancy
or a
hyperscaler due to the scale and complexity of their operations. However, all backgrounds demonstrating a senior level of M&E expertise in a critical environment will be considered. M&E Focus:
Deep technical knowledge of both
Mechanical
(HVAC, chillers, CRAH units, cooling systems) and
Electrical
(high-voltage power, UPS, generators, switchgear) systems. Travel:
Willingness and ability to travel regionally and internationally, often at short notice, to support critical projects and incidents. Soft Skills:
A self-motivated, autonomous, and highly organised individual who can manage their own schedule and workload effectively from a remote location. Right to Work:
You must hold the right to work in the UK already. Why Join Our Client? This is more than just a job; it's a chance to become a part of a unique company culture where your contributions directly influence the company's success. As a senior member of a lean, remote team, you will have a high degree of autonomy and direct impact. The role offers a competitive salary, excellent travel allowances, and a genuine opportunity to shape the future of mission-critical infrastructure.
