The Software & Platforms Services function is responsible for software platforms, infrastructure, and development to support current and future demand, including new ways to monetize our network, via streaming, advertising, and data. The Mobility Data Products team, among others, is responsible for providing monitoring and reporting tools and services for our In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) products.These rich tools enable our users to visualise the vast array of data traversing our satellite networks, providing insights into the quality of service being delivered, as well as how our satellite connectivity services are being utilised by our end customers.The performance of these tools and the accuracy of the information they provide is of critical importance to not only Service Delivery, Marketing, and Strategic teams across the business, but also by our customers, suppliers and partners.As a Data Engineer within the Mobility Data Products team you will be responsible for designing and building the deployment and operation of solutions to capture, manage, store and utilize structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources.The day-to-dayEstablishing and building processes based on business and technical requirements to channel data from multiple inputs and store using any combination of distributed (cloud) structures, local databases or other applicable storage formsDevelop and own technical tools leveraging big-data to cleanse, organise and transform data to maintain data structures and integrity on an automated basis in real timeDevelop solutions that are functional, reliable, maintainable, scalable and extensibleResolving complex issues that may impact multiple business areasMaintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholdersCollaborating with Data Engineers, Software Engineers, and Data Scientists both within the team and across the businessWriting clear and relevant documentationWhat you'll needExpert level (5+ years' experience) Python, including data manipulation packagesExpert level (5+ years' experience) SQLObject Oriented Programming (OOP)Familiar with AirflowFamiliar with the Software Development LifecycleCreative problem-solvingMeticulous attention to detailComfortable with working independently and taking ownershipWillingness to work outside of area of expertiseWhat will help you on the jobData processing frameworks (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, FluentBit, RabbitMQ)Data warehousing solutions (e.g. PostgreSQL, BigQuery)Cloud Platforms (e.g. Google Cloud Platform, AWS)CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins)Containerization solutions (e.g. Docker and Kubernetes)Version control systems (e.g. Git)Package managers (e.g. Poetry)Jinja2 SQL templatingLinux scriptingAgile change management processesComfortable with coaching members in the teamA passion for developing creative solutions to real user needs and business problemsExperience in aviation connectivityExperience in telecommunications industryEEO StatementViasat is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, seeking to create a welcoming and diverse environment.
