This is a position within Mace Construct, specialising in the Microsoft technology stack. You’ll support the development of digital tools, processes, and data infrastructure underpinning all BI activity, enabling effective project delivery for our clients.
As a data engineer, you will work as part of a team with other Digital Developers (Apps, Business Intelligence) to support the development of data engineering solutions on projects. You’ll help gather and document requirements and assist in translating these into technical specifications to guide development activities. You’ll communicate with stakeholders to share progress updates and help ensure work is delivered on time and to a good standard. You’ll also contribute to identifying and resolving issues as they arise.
You should be self-motivated to continually learn and enhance your knowledge of subject matter in your area of specialism. You will keep abreast of new technologies and techniques in the industry and will be able to identify business applications for their use, introducing into project work where relevant
You’ll be responsible for:
- Data Extraction & Integration: Identify optimal methods for extracting data from source systems, using tools such as Notebooks, Dataflows, and PowerShell
- Secure Data Management: Manage credentials (including service accounts and Azure Key Vault) to ensure secure compliance with data protection regulations and industry standards.
- Data Pipeline Development: Build robust integrations with error handling and business logic to prevent data corruption, omission, or duplication.
- Data Transformation: Apply data transformation fundamentals (e.g., cleaning, structuring into fact/dimension tables) using Azure Data Factory and supporting tools.
- Development Principles: Ensuring development conforms to standard software development principles including adherence to coding standards, QA & peer review, and use of version control through the different stages of development whilst leveraging Lakehouse and warehouse assets.
- Pipeline Operations: Oversee daily and periodic pipeline operations, optimising for efficiency and proactively resolving issues.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Interface with project teams and stakeholders to ensure BI Developers and Citizen Develop ers have timely access to required data.
- Lifecycle Management: Adhere to a structured development lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, handover, and support).
You’ll need to have:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with data engineering tools, with at least 1 year on the Microsoft tech stack. Experience with Microsoft Fabric in the last 12 months is highly desirable.
- Expert in SQL.
- Experience with data pipeline orchestration, ELT/ETL, medallion architecture, and Lakehouse design.
- Programming skills in Python, PowerShell, JSON, R, DAX, and M are advantageous.
- Knowledge of Microsoft productivity suite (SharePoint, Teams, Office 365).
- Data Management: Strong understanding of data structures, data security, and version control.
- Reporting & Analytics: Experience supporting BI and analytics tools (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate) is a plus.
- Consultancy Skills: Experience working in a consultancy environment and managing stakeholders (clients, colleagues, data owners).
- Soft Skills: Organised, collaborative, proactive, with excellent communication and presentation skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Committed to inclusivity and continuous learning
Desirable Skills:
- DP-600 (Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer) certification
- DP-700 (Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer) certification
- Exposure to agile frameworks and modern data engineering best practices.
- Willingness to share knowledge, support others, and challenge the status quo.
Aptitude for problem-solving and strong interpersonal skills.
