Software Engineer / Data Integration Engineer – National Security & Government

Up to £700 Inside IR35

Location: London or Bristol

As a Data Integration Engineer, you’ll work across data pipelines, APIs, and backend services to ensure data flows securely and seamlessly between systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver scalable integration solutions that support critical mission capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms using APIs and secure protocols.
  • Build and optimise scalable data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and delivering data across environments.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, and product teams to understand integration requirements and deliver robust solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues including data mismatches, authentication errors, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Document integration workflows, architecture, and operational processes.
  • Monitor integration health and implement alerting, logging, and performance tracking.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of integration architecture and practices.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow).
  • Proven backend development skills using Node.js, Python, Java, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of API design and integration techniques (REST, Webhooks, GraphQL).
  • Familiarity with authentication protocols (OAuth2, JWT).
  • Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and data pipeline tools.
  • Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and integration tools.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of data privacy, security best practices, and compliance (e.g., GDPR).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Qualifications
