OverviewData Migration Engineer role to support a large-scale migration project. The successful candidate will design, develop, and execute migration strategies to ensure data is transferred accurately, securely, and efficiently into the target environment. This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong SQL expertise, particularly in MySQL, who can take ownership of migration tasks, proactively identify risks, and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders. The location note indicates a preference for hybrid work from Glasgow or London; the role can be remote subject to location.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and execute ETL processes to migrate data from legacy systems to target platforms.Write and optimise complex SQL queries (preferably MySQL) to support data extraction, transformation, and validation.Apply the full data quality framework (accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, validity, uniqueness, integrity) across all migration activities.Conduct data profiling, cleansing, and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of migrated data.Translate business and technical requirements into data transformation rules and implement them effectively.Provide clear feedback to QA data testers, ensuring test coverage and quality are maintained throughout.Raise and manage risks, issues, and blockers promptly, keeping all stakeholders fully informed.Collaborate with business analysts, developers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with business needs.Provide clear documentation of migration processes, data mappings, data quality checks, and testing results.Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and resolve data-related issues promptly.Ensure migrations comply with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements.Work with case management software and related systems to understand data structures and workflows.QualificationsEssentialProven experience in public sector large-scale data migration projects.Strong SQL development skills within MySQL environments.Solid understanding of data transformations and ETL workflows.Knowledge and application of data quality dimensions in migration processes.Familiarity with case management systems and associated data structures.Strong problem-solving mindset, with the ability to take ownership and work independently.Experience in stakeholder engagement, risk reporting, and supporting QA testers.UK NPPV3 Security Clearance with at least 12 months remaining.Ability to work effectively as part of a data team and with cross-functional stakeholders.Desirable SkillsExperience with Oracle databases (alongside MySQL).Knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing, or data integration tools.Experience in working with agile project delivery methodologies.Ideally Azure and experience in Azure Data Factory for ETL.BenefitsPrivate Medical Cover funded by NEC for Employees (with the option to add family members at an additional cost)25 days paid holiday with the option to buy/sell4 x basic salary life assurance cover funded by NEC (with the option to increase cover at an additional cost)A Group Pension Plan with employer contributions up to a maximum of 8.5%A selection of flexible benefits to suit your individual needsAll colleagues get free access to LinkedIn Learning with over 15,000 coursesOther InformationCandidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work and travel within the UK.
