Role Overview
A leading engineering and manufacturing organisation is seeking a Design - Applications Engineer to join its expanding technical team. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented individual to bridge the gap between engineering, sales, and production ensuring high-quality, tailored solutions are delivered to customers.
You will be responsible for configuring, supporting, and maintaining technical product data to ensure accuracy in build specifications, performance, and overall product quality. Acting as a key technical liaison, this role supports new product development, customer-specific configurations, and cross-functional collaboration to align engineering outputs with business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Create, maintain, and update Master Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing routes to ensure product structure accuracy.
Manage and configure product selection rules and option sets aligned with engineering and commercial requirements.
Provide technical product support and application advice to the Sales team and customers.
Review customer documentation and internal handovers to validate configurations and propose optimal technical solutions.
Collaborate across departments — Engineering, Production, Procurement, Quality, and Sales — to deliver complete and accurate technical solutions.
Contribute to Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and New Product Development (NPD) projects.
Identify and order long lead-time components to align with production schedules.
Develop and maintain Human Machine Interface (HMI) programs to enhance product usability and functionality.
Support product/component sizing and application-specific design.
Generate and maintain technical documentation including datasheets, installation guides, and configuration manuals.
Support machine performance testing (e.g., speed, noise, efficiency) to verify and optimise design intent.
Assist with technical fault-finding and diagnostics either remotely or on-site as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
Knowledge of PLC or HMI systems (desirable but not essential).
Key Skills & Attributes:
Proven experience in a technical, design, or applications engineering role, ideally involving electrical/mechanical products.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Capable of presenting ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Confident working with cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
