Design Engineer - Structural & Architectural Steel Location: Stoke-on-Trent (Office & Workshop Based) Salary: £30,000 - £48,000 DOE + Training + Pension + Career Progression Permanent | Full-time

Are you a hands-on CAD designer with experience in structural steel or architectural metalwork and the ambition to develop specialist skills in balustrade and fabrication design?

We're recruiting for a Design Engineer to join a well-established Stoke-on-Trent-based fabrication business, delivering bespoke fabrications for commercial and specialist projects.

This role is ideal for someone with practical design experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD 2D and/or Inventor who wants to broaden their skills in steel detailing, balustrade systems and manufacturing-led design. Full product/process training will be provided where required; candidates with a solid CAD foundation and a fabrication or structural interest will be considered and trained up on the specifics.

The Role

Produce 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD 2D and/or Inventor, BOMs output files. Detail structural steel, balustrades and architectural metalwork to manufacturing tolerances, producing welding symbols, connection details and assembly drawings. Liaise directly with the workshop and site teams to resolve fabrication queries, support installation, and ensure drawings are buildable and compliant with standards. Support continuous improvement of drawing standards, templates and CAD libraries to speed up production handover.The Person

Practical CAD experience in SolidWorks, AutoCAD 2D or Inventor. Some exposure to structural steel, metalwork or balustrade design, confident reading engineering drawings and producing manufacturing documentation. Willingness to learn fabrication-specific processes Based locally or willing to commute to Stoke-on-Trent for an office & workshop-based role.What's On Offer
