Overview

Design Engineer - Underground Structures (Mining) at WSP in the UK & Ireland. This role involves delivering engineering design for underground structures (tunnels, shafts) and supporting the Mining business with project delivery, technical expertise, and client development.

Responsibilities

  • Producing and checking engineering deliverables and developing engineering solutions including design calculations, reports, presentations and drawings associated with the design of underground structures (e.g. tunnels and shafts).
  • Work as part of a diverse team of engineers, scientists and modellers from conceptual design through to detailed design and engineering for construction.
  • Carry out engineering analysis and design using both simple and numerical models from either first principles or to codified processes.
  • Conduct engineering research and development tasks to support innovative engineering solutions.
  • Assist project managers in the successful delivery of projects by managing own involvement in projects, including time, budget and quality control.
  • Occasional project-based travel and site work, working away both in the UK and overseas; the frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client needs.
  • Carry out business development activities including preparation of technical proposals.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to other team members.
  • Work in a collaborative way, supporting intermediate and senior staff, to achieve project goals.
  • Display a ‘safety first’ attitude in line with an interdependent health and safety culture, promoting a positive health and safety attitude.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Demonstrable engineering experience, post-graduation.
  • Understanding of structural principles and construction materials.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings.
  • Experience with design codes of practices.
  • Ability to make decisions and display initiative, with an innovative and analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time-management, time-keeping and organisational capabilities, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office packages.
