Overview Job title: Design Engineer Based from: Gloucester/Home with travel Region covered: UK & Europe Reports to: Design Manager The Role As a Design Engineer you will be responsible for designing and costing complex life safety and electronic security systems, including but not limited to fire detection, voice alarm, disabled refuge, CCTV, access control, intercom, PA, structured cabling and intruder systems. You will review client/tender specification documents and drawings, liaise with suppliers, use CAD software for detailed design, cost projects, and draft proposal documents. You will work collaboratively with the wider Sales Team, clients, consultants, suppliers and contractors to ensure internal and external deadlines are met and that projects are accurately designed and costed. Duties And Responsibilities
Assisting the Design Management with sales enquiries and tenders Designing life safety and security systems plus other integrated building systems as specified within the Company’s scope of work based on customer requirements, specifications, drawings and current standards Preparing proposals, quotations and tender documents for designed systems and ensuring that assigned tenders are prepared on time and in line with company standards Assessing the security and fire risk factors influencing the design, to either enhance the design accordingly or to communicate back to the client Ensuring that the content of all quotations and system design specifications are compatible with applicable technical and regulatory standards (e.g., EN, BS, HTM) and BAFE/NSI Codes of Practice Ensuring adherence to all Company policies – including those for quality, health & safety, and the management of false alarms Producing CAD design and construction drawings in line with company policies and procedures and ensuring handovers and deadlines are achieved Traveling to client or supplier sites within the UK and Europe

Fire & security systems engineering and/or design experience Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to design relevant systems, prepare cost sheets and proposal documents Able to form good working relationships with colleagues, customers, and outside bodies Able to understand and disseminate specifications and technical drawings Excellent organisational, interpersonal, problem solving and time management skills
Desirable
Proficient in using AutoCAD packages Conversant with and up to date in respect of new technologies, technical standards, regulatory standards relevant to the design process Knowledge of applicable quality systems (ISO9001, SSQS101, FSQS121 etc.) Clear understanding of construction industry and tender related works Previous experience within a goal-driven / result-oriented environment

Working Conditions This role is a hybrid role, based from home and from our Gloucester office. When in the office, you will be working in an open-plan environment with multi-screen computer use. This role requires travel to various client and supplier sites across the UK and Europe, which may involve time away from home.
