Overview

SR2 is working with a long-standing delivery partner on the major public sector project, supporting modern DevOps enablement across platform and product teams. We’re looking for a skilled DevOps Engineer with strong Kubernetes experience to join a specialist platform engineering function. This team acts as an enabler — helping application teams adopt DevOps best practices via reusable tooling, scalable platforms, and robust CI/CD. This is a 12-month contract, Outside IR35, on a Defence programme. Active SC clearance is required for all applicants.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, improve, and maintain platform engineering tools and services for application teams
• Build and support CI/CD pipelines, containerised environments, and deployment workflows
• Support product teams in taking ownership of their services across the entire SDLC
• Contribute to standards, common tooling, and DevOps best practice across the programme
• Work independently and engage with stakeholders on requirements, feasibility, and improvements

Essential Skills / Experience

• Kubernetes (3+ years), Helm, and strong containerisation knowledge
• CI/CD tooling and pipeline automation
• Linux, Bash, and Infrastructure-as-Code experience
• Comfortable working across small teams with autonomy
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills

• OpenShift, Terraform, Ansible, or other HashiCorp tools
• Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
• Experience with containerised services such as Postgres, Redis, Kafka, or Keycloak
• Previous experience with MOD delivery environments or YAML-based pipelines

The Details

• Contract: 12 months
• Outside IR35
• Rate: up to £480
• Location: Remote with 1-2 days on-site on a fortnightly basis
• Clearance: Active SC required
