The Opportunity

As a Diesel and Emergency Generation Engineer, you’ll contribute to the design, manufacture, validation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of diesel engines within a centralised technical services organisation, whilst developing expertise across other technical areas with training and support provided.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll provide technical authority and expert advice on the design, operation, maintenance, and optimisation of emergency diesel generators, with potential to expand into gas turbine emergency generation systems. Initially supporting new build projects, this role will develop into long-term asset support and shape operational practices across the fleet.

You’ll deliver operational support and fault-finding during emergent issues or breakdowns, provide live support to safely return major plant to service, contribute safety case knowledge, ALARP optioneering, and risk-informed decision making, ensuring compliance with technical standards and governance.

You’ll monitor asset performance and plant degradation to highlight risks and optimise outage scopes, champion best practices, act as an expert witness, support acceptance and surveillance activities, and grow deep technical expertise across a broad range of power plant assets.

Who You Are

Mechanical Engineering background (degree, HNC, or HND) with experience or interest in developing knowledge of emergency generation plant items, and broad technical understanding.

Ideally: knowledge and experience of Diesel Engines and Emergency Generation Plant Systems, including plant theory, faults, operation, degradation, and maintenance optimisation.

To be appointed, you need to meet Counter Terrorist Check criteria (British residency for last 3 years).
