The Power Systems Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for maintaining and sustaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.Open to internal and external candidatesJob SummaryWe are seeking an Electrical Engineer in our Utilities branch responsible for the distribution of electrical power from the Tennessee Valley Authority to at least eight distribution substations to provide power to our test facilities and other infrastructure. This person could be assigned to support any of the following, but not all: low voltage, medium voltage, generators, controls, etc. AEDC is a suite of ground test facilities providing simulated operating environments for air and space vehicles and sub system or scaled systems development and testing. While this position has some office work involved, the majority of the engineer's time is spent in the field or test area. Engineers who enjoy this type of work typically have some interest or experience with electrical systems such as motors, switch-gear, transfer switches, electrical distribution, generators, lighting systems, PLC controls, etc.Job DutiesUnder the direction/leadership of a more experienced engineer: Provide electrical system engineering for assigned systems within power control group. Provide support to ARC flash program as needed.Maintain preventive maintenance processes in CMMS; provide field support to direct and make decisions on issues; provide engineering support for proactive and corrective issues; manage spares and capital investment support for these systems.Interface directly with the Air Force (AF) customer to provide recommendations to ensure assets are maintained according to AF standards.Participate in engineering tasks including: collecting/generating system requirements; performing gap analyses; modifying designs for as-built changes or changing requirements; preparing specifications, statements of work, and calculations; reviewing detailed design drawings; providing installation engineering and checkout instructions; preparing safety hazard analyses and mitigation verification; preparing or reviewing engineering studies and reports; preparing material and labor estimates; generating operations and maintenance instructions, guidelines, procedures, and checklists; developing and maintaining preventive maintenance and asset management programs; instrumentation and control system design and support.Interface with ID&C engineers, test and plant operations engineers, design engineers, facility analysis engineers, reliability engineers, project engineers/managers, safety and environmental engineers, craft supervision and planners/schedulers, and other disciplines to ensure systems readiness and properly scheduled maintenance outages.Provide technical guidance to craft personnel in setup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and removal of systems.Participate in incident investigations and root-cause analyses; present technical information to NAS management, AF client, and test customers.Wear PPE as directed by supervision and policy; perform other duties as required.Basic QualificationsBS degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
