Job Title: EC&I Engineer

Location: West Yorkshire

Salary: Up to £60,000 + Benefits

The Company

We are recruiting for an EC&I Engineer to join the central maintenance team of a leading COMAH site in West Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex plant, electrical distribution, and control systems in a highly regulated environment, playing a key part in site safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities

As an EC&I Engineer, your duties will include:

  • Working as part of the maintenance team to ensure the site operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and all relevant standards.
  • Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
  • Working on electrical distribution (415v 3-phase, 240v, 110v).
  • Maintaining and fault-finding on PLC/DCS and hard-wired control systems.
  • Proof testing of safety instrumented systems and critical alarms.
  • Creating EC&I drawings (e.g., block cable diagrams, single line diagrams), technical specifications, and basis of design documents.
  • Producing and reviewing documents such as risk registers, testing strategies, method statements, and technical files for new equipment.
  • Participating in HAZOPs, design reviews, and supporting safety case development.
  • Ensuring designs and systems comply with relevant standards, legislation, and project requirements, including functional safety.
  • Checking the quality of design deliverables to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Supporting commissioning activities, including site visits and occasional overnight stays.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues proactively.
  • Maintaining site EC&I records through the CMMS system.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and sharing technical knowledge with colleagues.


Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Level 3 Electrical qualification and/or time-served apprenticeship.
  • Training in BS7671 wiring regulations.
  • Knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • IPAF certification (or willingness to complete).
  • Strong PLC/DCS fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of BS60079, BS EN 61508 or BS EN 61511 (advantageous).
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
