Package: £80k - £85k Fixed Base + £5K Annual Travel allowance (Paid on Salary Monthly) + X2 Monthly Salary Bonus (£13,333 - £14,166) + Full Private Medical / Dental Package

Note: This role requires on-site presence and may involve travel to project sites as necessary. Flexibility in working hours may be required to support operational needs.

Job Purpose

The Electrical Design Engineer - Data Center will support the delivery, commissioning, and optimization of data center projects for our multinational Colo Data Center client. The role focuses on energy-efficient, resilient, and high-quality electrical systems in both essential and critical infrastructure. The engineer will ensure compliance with applicable legislation, ISO standards, and safety protocols, and will resolve technical issues related to electrical systems. The position oversees electrical installations, power distribution, and generation systems across the data center estate.

Key Accountabilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the optimization of electrical infrastructure with guidance from the Line Manager, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.
  • Implement and monitor health and safety procedures relevant to electrical systems and act on audit recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Building Services to ensure uninterrupted data center operations and resolve infrastructure-related issues promptly.
  • Draft technical specification documents for new builds and electrical upgrade projects.
  • Lead or support the commissioning process for upgrades and new builds, including final sign-off of electrical systems.
  • Develop and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Document FAT and SAT procedures in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Ensure all electrical-related health and safety policies are implemented according to OHSAS 18001 standards.
  • Conduct inspections and manage contractors to ensure compliance with SLAs, maintaining performance records.
  • Ensure all statutory and cyclical testing of electrical systems is completed and documented.
  • Maintain records of compliance with health and safety legislation, fire safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate safe working procedures with the site Health & Safety Manager.
  • Own electrical H&S audits, ensuring all compliance issues are resolved promptly and proactively.
  • Monitor corrective actions and develop preventive measures.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on electrical and control systems.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to ensure successful completion of electrical works.
  • Maintain and update risk assessments covering all electrical work activities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
  • 17th/18th Edition Certification (or equivalent)
  • Experience in electrical and control systems within critical infrastructure
  • Knowledge of statutory regulations, technical standards, and UK/EU legislation
  • Strong fault diagnosis and analytical capabilities
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent documentation, reporting, and communication skills
  • Understanding of data center electrical and building services systems
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering / Chartered Engineer
  • IOSH or BIFM qualification/membership
  • Experience with UPS systems, generator controls, switchgear, AC/DC systems
  • Experience acting as the client in infrastructure projects
  • Fire systems knowledge and fire risk assessment certification
  • Experience with PPM, plant maintenance systems, and management systems
  • HVAP Certification (AP15 or equivalent)
