My client is looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a background working for a contractor to join their growing and forward-thinking engineering consultancy.\n\nThis is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic, chartered M&E consultancy that combines practical expertise with a deep commitment to innovation and sustainability. The company works on a range of high-performance buildings and infrastructure, striving for smarter, more self-sustaining systems across the built environment.\n\nYou’ll be joining a small, highly skilled team where your contributions will be valued, your ideas heard, and your technical input will help shape next- solutions.\n\nAbout the Role\n\nAs an Electrical Design Engineer, you will bring your practical site-based knowledge into the heart of the design process. You will be involved in delivering detailed electrical designs, system integration, and performance-driven solutions that support the long-term sustainability of the buildings and infrastructure served.\n\nThis role is ideal for someone who has worked on-site or within a contractor environment, who now wants to apply that real-world understanding into consultancy design—ensuring systems are not only well-engineered but also buildable, cost-effective, and future-proof.\n\nResponsibilities\n\n * Deliver full electrical design packages across RIBA Stages 1–5\n\n * Create technical drawings, schematics, and cable routing plans\n\n * Perform electrical calculations including load assessments, cable sizing, and fault analysis\n\n * Ensure all designs comply with UK regulations (e.g.
BS7671) and sustainability targets\n\n * Coordinate closely with mechanical engineers, architects, contractors, and external consultants\n\n * Participate in design reviews, feasibility studies, and project meetings\n\n * Engage with renewable and intelligent building technologies as part of integrated design solutions\n\n * Attend occasional site visits for surveys, inspections, and client meetings\n\nRequirements\n\n * 3+ years of UK experience in electrical design within the built environment\n\n * Background working for a contractor or on construction sites (not just consultancy)\n\n * Strong knowledge of UK electrical regulations, building codes, and design standards\n\n * Competent with AutoCAD, Revit, or other design tools\n\n * Ability to produce and review detailed technical documentation\n\n * Practical mindset and awareness of how electrical systems are installed and maintained\n\n * Comfortable working in a small, collaborative team with a hands-on approach\n\n * Full UK working rights; driving licence \n\nDesirable Skills & Experience\n\n * Exposure to low-carbon technologies, battery storage, and renewables (e.g. solar PV, EV charging)\n\n * Familiarity with BIM processes and multidisciplinary coordination\n\n * Awareness of building performance modelling, SBEM or EPC calculations\n\n * Experience working on data centres, critical systems, or smart buildings\n\n * Working towards or holding professional registration (IET, CEng, etc.)\n\nWhat’s on Offer\n\n * A collaborative environment where innovation and sustainability are core values\n\n * Projects that focus on future-ready building design and energy independence\n\n * Clear progression pathway with mentorship from experienced chartered engineers\n\n * Flexibility around working arrangements (office/home balance)\n\n * Opportunity to shape and influence real-world outcomes in a rapidly evolving sector\n\nIf this is of interest or could be for someone you know, please get in touch today for a confidential conversation
