Job Purpose Working across an Assets and Connections Portfolio, you will produce high quality electrical designs to an agreed scope. Designs to be delivered to cost, time and quality targets. All designs must meet UK Power Networks design and CDM standards. These designs could be for both non-contestable and contestable works. You will work as part of a diverse team, delivering design technical excellence. Principal Accountabilities
Produce Electrical Designs that can be constructed in compliance with standards and CDM requirements with little or no supervision Deliver designs conforming to Codes of Practice and company/industry standards for designs related to UKPN Sub-stations Contribute to technical, commercial and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and procedures Compliance with design assurance and audit processes Prepare concept and developed designs from specifications and drawings within defined periods Provide excellent customer service Work as a team player within larger diverse teams Collaborate with operational teams to ensure smooth process from enquiry to energisation and project closure Comply with CDM Regulations as a designer/principal designer Ensure designs eliminate hazards and reduce risks (with CDM) Support other team members to enhance technical experience
Qualifications
Electrical engineering background with knowledge of power systems and protection design at 132kV, 33kV, 11kV and intermediate voltages Knowledge of design processes and ENA/International Design Standards; operational aspects to deliver designs Experience with external engineering organisations and stakeholders representing UKPN Ability to peer review designs within specific area Strong safety culture and understanding of CDM Regulations Ability to work unsupervised, set targets, and identify cost-saving solutions Good teamwork skills and business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory awareness Knowledge of project management Proficient in Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint; AutoCAD and/or MicroStation Awareness of developments in distribution plant and equipment Broad knowledge of cables and overhead lines; input into innovative construction ideas feeding UK Power Networks Green Action Plan Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science Work towards Chartership
Dimensions The post holder is required to undertake site visits, including entry to operational substations where safety rules apply.
