Overview
Senior Electrical Network Design Engineer – Bolton (Head Office) or any regional office in the North East, Midlands or Yorkshire. Aptus Utilities are seeking to recruit a strong team player and multi-tasker to join us in the role of Senior Electrical Design Engineer, reporting to one of our Managers (Design). The ideal candidate will have strong electrical network design awareness and experience within the utility industry.
What you will be doing
Design individually tailored LV/HV electrical network design solutions and earthing assessments for domestic, commercial, and industrial developments (Single Line Diagrams, circuit diagrams, general arrangements, wiring diagrams, block cable diagrams/schedules, cable specification/sizing calculations, etc.).
Obtain DNO/IDNO design approval for individually tailored network design solutions including power distribution earthing.
Prioritise workflow, ensuring high quality network designs and projects are completed accurately, delivered on time, within budget, enhancing the professional image and reputation of the company in the marketplace.
Liaise closely with Utility Infrastructure Providers, equipment manufacturers and the DNOs/IDNOs.
Provision of specialist electrical network/substation engineering advice to project stakeholders.
Monitor industry developments and contribute to ongoing design strategy within the department.
Participate in internal and external stakeholders meetings and ensure excellent electrical advisory support, through liaison with all project stakeholders.
Responsible for the technical compliance of electrical network design to meet the client's requirements, ensuring they satisfy company quality requirements, are compliant with current DNO/IDNO policy, ENA Documentation, CDM Regulation, Codes of Practice, National/International Standards and legislation, company policy/procedures and contract specification, including safety compliance where appropriate.
Work as part of the Design Department team to develop, monitor and maintain a standardised approach to electrical design.
Provide regular technical updates to the Design team, ensuring a consistent approach to design.
Engage with Gas and Water Designers to coordinate the delivery of multi-utility design projects.
Support the Tendering Department and, where required, provide outline designs.
Undertake internal technical peer review of tendering and contract designs prior to design submission.
Mentor, coach, and guide trainee/junior design engineers.
What we ask from you
Suitable engineering qualification (Degree/HND or equivalent).
Incorporate Engineer Status recognised by IET (or expected to achieve within 6 months); experience in designing/planning LV and HV (11kV/33kV) electrical utility network infrastructure, substation and earthing designs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously.
Minimum 5 years' experience designing LV/HV electrical networks.
Good understanding of UK power industry including technical standards DNO/IDNO network construction requirements, including knowledge of G81 documents.
Knowledge of technical specifications of equipment, substations, cables, and plant.
Understanding of DNO protection requirements would be beneficial.
Understanding of current NERS requirements and ability to provide compliance support.
Working knowledge of WinDEBUT/VisNet software and AutoCAD software.
Understanding of CDM Regulations and NRSA/W.
Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 18001.
Ability to prioritise workflow to ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, within budget and in accordance with KPI metrics.
Engage and communicate effectively with clients and relationship management, providing up-to-date progress on projects and ensuring client expectations are met or exceeded where possible.
Self-motivated with the ability to analyse complex electrical data and information.
High level of customer service and attention to detail; a team player who can also work independently and resolve design issues.
