Role Description:
The Enabling Infrastructure team is an established group of experienced engineers specialising in the delivery of development led infrastructure projects. As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to expand our capacity in the north of England. The role will nominally be based out of Manchester, with flexibility in line with our agile / hybrid working policy.
The team works on projects across Mobility, Places and Resilience, in market sectors including strategic housing & residential, commercial & employment, transport hubs and major transport (rail and highways). We are developing client relationships within ports and logistics, and welcome applicants with relevant experience in these sectors.
We are seeking a career-minded Engineer with ambition to progress and with experience in designing infrastructure and drainage solutions for development projects. We provide support toward Chartered / Incorporated status through an ICE training agreement.
Role Accountabilities
Reporting to the Associate Technical Director/ Principal Engineer, you will contribute to the successful delivery of infrastructure, highways and drainage projects and be eager to learn and develop new engineering skills.
- Provide engineering design support within the Enabling Infrastructure team and offer technical advice.
- Prepare technical reports, drawings and calculations for development-related infrastructure design, including surface water, foul water, highways and utilities, ensuring alignment with client requirements and adoptable standards and taking responsibility for technical output.
- Support project delivery, including quality assurance and client feedback, and communicate changes effectively.
- Collaborate with other design disciplines and contractor D&B teams to maintain overall design integrity.
- Work in accordance with Business Management processes and procedures.
- Assist in achieving broader safety, health, quality, and sustainability goals.
- Hold a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Keep up to date with industry developments and seek opportunities to develop professionally.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should have some prior experience of development infrastructure projects and design of infrastructure solutions. Demonstrated ability in the following areas is preferred:
- Experience in surface water, foul water drainage, highways, earthworks, and utilities design.
- Knowledge of SuDS, SfA, DMRB, and Local Authority design standards.
- Experience preparing initial feasibility and site appraisal studies within a multi-disciplinary team to support planning applications.
- Experience using Autodesk Civil3D for infrastructure design and Microdrainage/Infodrainage for drainage design.
- Acknowledgement of BIM design delivery principles.
- Self-motivated with good people and interpersonal skills to influence outcomes.
- Hold a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and progress toward Chartered or Incorporated status.
