Overview

Engineer / Senior / Principal Engineer (Bridges) at WSP in the UK & Ireland. Role based in Glasgow or Edinburgh with hybrid working; some travel may be required for site visits, inspections or meetings.

What’s involved?

We are looking for Senior and Principal engineers to join our Bridges Team in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

• Bridge design, both in the UK and overseas;
• Bridge management;
• Bridge strengthening and repair, inspections and assessments;
• General civil and structural engineering support to other teams;
• Preparation of documents, reports and health and safety risk assessments, scheme designs and drawings, scheme feasibility studies and outline cost estimates;
• Checking drawings and supervision of CAD technicians.

Your team

The Bridges team works on highway and rail bridge engineering for local authorities, Contractors, private developers and public-sector clients. You will contribute to quality and timeliness of delivery and mentor more-junior team members.

This is a hybrid role based in the office/home; some travel may be required occasionally for site visits, inspections, or meetings.

Qualifications

We’d love to hear from you if you are a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer. Typical experience includes the following:

• Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment from construction sites and design office;
• Project management experience on bridge projects;
• Design, maintenance and supervision of structures with a track record of innovation in bridges and civil structures infrastructure (new build, maintenance, assessment and strengthening);
• Working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW) related to structural schemes;
• Understanding and experience with Eurocodes and their application to bridge design;
• Experience in design or assessment of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges;
• Experience with grillage, space frame and finite element analysis software such as LUSAS, Superstress and SAM;
• Good communication, client handling and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to adapt to new challenges and to contribute to the development of the bridges team.
