Engineer - Verification & Validation Capability – Derby, Warrington or Manchester / Hybrid. Salary £40,000 to £52,500 + excellent benefits. Rolls-Royce SMR is delivering a first-of-its-kind project in a fast-paced startup environment backed by the Rolls-Royce brand.

This role is within the Development Engineering organisation, responsible for demonstrating that the SMR power station design fulfils its objectives and requirements, and for providing data and evidence to support development and delivery through verification and validation activities, testing, demonstrations, and research and technology programmes. The remit spans multiple engineering and operational disciplines essential for delivering a major infrastructure project.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain processes and tools that support Verification and Validation (V&V) activities, and contribute to growing people capability within the team.
  • Create and implement efficient, integrated processes, methods, tools, standards and guidance for Design Verification and Product Validation to enable RR SMR objectives.
  • Support Strategic V&V resource planning (internal & external) to meet business needs and priorities.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and/or other Capability Engineers to ensure technical excellence across Development Engineering and support project delivery teams to meet cost, quality and schedule requirements.
  • Ensure technical quality, competency & safety requirements are met in the Development supply chain, delivering zero harm and right-first-time outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development of capability, including methods, tools, processes and personnel capability; deliver a departmental functional strategy for V&V approaches.

Key selection criteria

  • Verification and Validation experience, including V&V of new products in safety-critical and highly-regulated environments. Nuclear industry experience is desirable but not essential; experience in other power sectors or process industries may be considered.
  • Experience in defining strategy/plans, verification activities and exit criteria, and conducting analysis, testing or auditing evidence to assess product compliance with requirements.
  • Development of Capability: experience in developing and continuously improving methods, tools, processes and personnel capability; creation and delivery of a departmental functional strategy for V&V approaches.
  • Proactive in challenging the status quo and driving continuous improvement.
  • Communication and Influence: strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage uncertainty and change, and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Systems Engineering: systems-thinking mindset with practical experience using systems engineering tools and techniques to deliver positive outcomes; ability to manage change and uncertainty.
  • Nuclear Safety Culture: ability to model and promote strong safety behaviours and to foster a positive safety culture.
  • Training & Degree: degree in Engineering, physical sciences or equivalent; Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership. Applicants without a degree but with suitable knowledge and experience may be considered.

  • There is openness to candidates meeting approximately 75% of the requirements. Transferable skills from other sectors are welcome.

Pay and Benefits

  • Salary: £40,000 - £52,500 (DOE).
  • Bonus: up to 12.5% performance-related bonus.
  • Benefits Allowance: £2,200 per annum.
  • Pension: 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays: 28 days plus public holidays; option to buy or sell up to 4 days.
