Are you ready to apply your environmental expertise to one of the UK's most ambitious and pioneering engineering programmes?
This is your opportunity to play a critical role in the development of the UK's first prototype fusion power plant - a project designed to revolutionise the way we generate clean, sustainable energy.
The Programme
This cutting-edge initiative aims to design and build a first-of-its-kind prototype fusion energy plant by 2040. Bringing together world-leading scientists, engineers, policymakers, and industry partners, the programme will demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion - paving the way for a commercially viable, zero-carbon energy sector.
The Role
As Environmental Engineer, you'll work closely with the Environmental Technical Lead and multidisciplinary teams to integrate environmental best practice into every stage of the programme. You'll take ownership of key environmental work packages, lead on the development of Environment Cases, and ensure compliance with environmental legislation and sustainability standards on a project of unprecedented scale and complexity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as a technical expert on environmental aspects of the programme.
* Lead the development of Environment Cases for new plant and equipment designs.
* Embed Best Available Techniques (BAT) and conduct Environmental Impact Identification (ENVID) workshops.
* Integrate environmental requirements into engineering design and procurement strategies.
* Review environmental studies, assess risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
* Collaborate across technical, engineering, and project teams to ensure seamless environmental integration.
* Support ISO14001 compliance and environmental management system improvements.
* Provide training and upskilling to teams on environmental and sustainability requirements.
About You:
* Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
* Strong knowledge of ISO14001 with experience of certification processes.
* Proven track record embedding environmental and sustainability principles in complex engineering projects.
* Experience facilitating BAT and ENVID activities.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
* Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail.
Why Join?
* Work at the forefront of the global clean energy revolution.
* Contribute to a once-in-a-generation engineering programme with long-term career prospects.
* Join a collaborative, mission-driven team working on one of the UK's most exciting projects.
If you're passionate about environmental excellence and want to help shape the future of sustainable energy, apply today to be part of history in the making.
