Field Engineer - Rail Grinding Fleet \nLocation: Milton Keynes / South Midlands Corridor (covering North London, Oxford, Gloucester & surrounding areas)\n\n Salary & Benefits \nBasic Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 (DOE) \nOn-Target Earnings with on-call and overtime: Up to £77,000+ including overtime, on-call, and allowances \nLunch Allowance: £1,175 per year (tax-free) \nOn-Call Payment: £1,175 per year on average \nOvertime: Paid for all hours above 40/week\n \nFlat rate weekdays \nDouble time on Sundays and Bank Holidays (plus a day in lieu for Bank Holidays worked) \nTravel: Paid door-to-door (excluding local depot visits) \nCompany Van & Fuel Card provided \nHotels & Meals: Company accounts with quality hotels, all expenses paid, breakfast and evening meal. \nPension: 5% employer contribution \nHolidays: 25 days + 8 Bank Holidays \nPhone, PPE, Training and Progression About the Role We’re seeking a skilled Field Technical Support Engineer to carry out scheduled and corrective maintenance on advanced rail grinding machines across the South Midlands and North London regions.\n This is a field-based role combining hands-on technical work with remote fault support — ideal for a proactive engineer who enjoys autonomy, travel, and variety.\n You’ll start your day from home, travelling out to the depot or sites with daily task allocations and fully paid travel. Expect a mix of day and night shifts, the rota will cover some weekends with days off in the week, and 2–3 nights per week away, with all expenses covered.\n\n Key Responsibilities \nPerform scheduled maintenance and repairs on rail grinding equipment \nDiagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults \nUse the computerised maintenance system to manage and close out defects \nProvide remote or on-site technical support to grinder operators \nMaintain tooling, consumables, spares, PPE, and vehicle standards \nSign off equipment as fit for service after inspection or repair \nParticipate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives \nLiaise with internal teams, rail partners, and contractors Qualifications & Experience Essential:\n \nRecognised Mechanical/Electrical/Maintenance qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) \nFull UK Driving Licence \nUnderstanding of Health & Safety practices \nAbility to pass a medical and D&A screening \nConfident with fault-finding, diagnostics, and the use of IT systems Desirable:\n \nRail or heavy plant maintenance experience \nEx-Military Engineers are always a good fit, REME, RAF Engineers, Marine Engineers, or agricultural engineers.
