Job Title: Fire & Security Engineer\nLocation: Scotland (travel required)\nHours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (overtime and call-out opportunities available)\nSalary: Competitive – dependent on experience\nHolidays: 33 days per year (including bank holidays)\nReports To: Service Manager and C.O.O\n\nAbout the Role\n\nVWS is looking for a skilled and experienced Fire & Security Engineer to join our dedicated team. You will be responsible for the installation, servicing, and maintenance of a wide range of fire, security, and safety systems across Scotland. This is a customer-facing role where professionalism, quality of work, and adaptability are key.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Install, service, and maintain:\n\n * Fire alarm and intruder alarm systems\n\n * CCTV and access control systems\n\n * Warden call and nurse call systems\n\n * Automatic doors and mechanical locking devices (e.g., push bars, electric strikes)\n\n * Emergency lighting systems\n\n * Carry out inspections, testing, and fault-finding on all systems to ensure compliance with relevant standards.\n\n * Diagnose and resolve faults quickly and effectively, ensuring system downtime is kept to a minimum.\n\n * Apply a methodical approach to all tasks, following industry standards and VWS procedures.\n\n * Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional, approachable attitude on-site.\n\n * Complete all job sheets, reports, and compliance documentation accurately and promptly.\n\n * Participate in the on-call rota and support colleagues as required.\n\n * Travel throughout Scotland to support various customers and environments (travel time included).\n\nRequirements\n\n * Completion of a modern apprenticeship in security alarms (or equivalent qualification).\n\n * Minimum 5 years’ experience working with fire and security systems.\n\n * Proven experience with a variety of safety systems, including warden/nurse call, access control, emergency lighting, and mechanical locking systems.\n\n * Industry-recognised qualifications and product training desirable, such as:\n\n * FIA training (Fire Industry Association)\n\n * Avigilon, Paxton, Videx, Galaxy, or other manufacturer-specific certifications\n\n * Electrical/Fire & Security NVQs or equivalent\n\n * Strong technical problem-solving ability and a methodical, logical approach to work.\n\n * Excellent timekeeping and attendance record.\n\n * Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.\n\n * Flexible and adaptable, with a customer-first mindset.\n\n * Full UK driving licence.\n\nWhat We Offer\n\nCompetitive salary based on experience.\n\n33 days annual leave (including bank holidays).\n\nOvertime pay and call-out opportunities.\n\nPaid travel time.\n\nTraining and development opportunities to expand your skillset.\n\nSupportive, professional, and customer-focused team culture
