Join us and take your place in space and aerospace engineering.We are searching for an experienced FPGA Engineer to support our team within the Timing and Frequency Division (Navigation), based within our Harwell Office within the UK.WHAT CHALLENGE WILL YOU BE TAKING ON?The FPGA Engineer will lead thedesign, implementation, and validation of gateware (HDL) systems, as well asthe development and testing of associated firmware and hardware.As part of our team, you will workwith a broad range of technologies, including atomic clocks, GNSS, and timetransfer protocols over Ethernet, wireless, optical, and satellite links. Theteam also explores innovative solutions such as quantum technologies andmachine learning applications.In this role, you will contributedirectly to the White Rabbit project, a technology that has become an industrystandard, providing sub-nanosecond synchronisation and deterministic datatransfer to distributed devices interconnected within a WR network. You willplay a key role in advancing this technology and ensuring its integration intocutting-edge applications.The ideal candidate will have provenexperience in the design, development, simulation and testing of gateware(HDL), firmware, and hardware systems, combined with a passion for tacklingcomplex, multidisciplinary engineering challenges. We are looking for someoneeager to innovate, collaborate across diverse technical domains, and contributeto advanced solutions in timing and synchronisation technologies.WHAT DO WE NEED IN OUR TEAM?Key Responsibilities within this role include:Develop and maintain HDL modules (mostly VHDL).Develop simulation test benches (mostlySystemVerilog).Assist in the development of production tests to beconducted post-hardware manufacturing.Assist in hardware design, reviews and production.Develop automated tests, to be run on hardware inContinuous Integration (CI) pipelines.Collaborate with your colleagues in thehardware/software co-design process, where hardware, HDL, firmware, Linuxdevice drivers and host applications are developed and reviewed together.Produce detailed technical documentation, includingrequirement specifications, design justifications, test reports.Essential experience and qualifications:-4+ years of professional experience as anElectronic/FPGA Engineer or in a related fieldProven experience in FPGA design and simulationusing VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog for UltraScale+ FPGAs.Experience in the design of electronic circuits(schematics and PCB) based on FPGA or System-on-Chip.Experience in the development of firmware and devicedrivers.Proficiency with Git-based development workflows,including code reviews, merge requests, and CI pipelines.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently as well ascollaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.Experience with White Rabbit, PTP, or NTP-basedsystemsStrong knowledge of Ethernet architectures (e.g.,1G, 10G) used in network switches and/or routers.Solid understanding of embedded Linux systems,network architectures, Python, PyTest, and GitLab.Knowledge of signal processing and software-definedradio (SDR).WHAT DO WE OFFER?Hybridworking model and 8 weeks per year of teleworking outside your usual geographical area.Personalizedcareer plan development, training and language learning support.Competitivecompensation with ongoing reviews, flexible compensation anddiscount on brands.Wellbeing program: Health, and lifeinsurance; free fruit and coffee, physical, mental health support and much more!️ In our recruitment processes youwill always have telephone and personal contact, face-to-face or online, withour talent acquisition team.
